New DQ Grill & Chill® Restaurant Opens in Fort Lauderdale

New restaurant serves up Dairy Queen® iconic soft-serve treats, flavorful foods and Orange Julius® offerings.

March 14, 2014 // Franchising.com // FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Dairy Queen® system's newest, most exciting restaurant concept has opened its doors at 5810 North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale. The new 3,330 square-foot DQ Grill & Chill® restaurant has added 50 new jobs, contributing to Fort Lauderdale's employment growth. The restaurant also will contribute to the state's restaurant sales, which according to the National Restaurant Association are projected to increase by 4.5 percent this year.

"We are excited to open our second DQ Grill & Chill restaurant and welcome the Fort Lauderdale community in to enjoy our full menu of cravable food items, cool treats and Orange Julius® Premium Fruit Smoothies, Light Smoothies and Julius® Original drinks," said restaurant operator Mitch Groden, who also owns a DQ Grill & Chill restaurant in Tamarac. "This new restaurant is sure to become a location where families and friends can gather to share smiles and stories over a great meal and treats."

An Array of Menu Options

The DQ Grill & Chill concept blends the best of DQ® iconic history with the most modern innovations in the quick-service restaurant (QSR) industry. The food menu features the quarter- and half-pound GrillBurgerTM made to order, as well as other delicious and unique food items, including deli-style Iron Grilled Sandwiches. Other menu offerings include Grilled or Crispy Chicken Sandwiches and Salads; Chicken Strip Baskets; Shrimp Baskets; Quesadillas and Chili Cheese Dogs.

The DQ system's value meal, $5 Buck Lunch, is available daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at participating locations. Fans have a choice of a quarter-pound GrillBurger with cheese, 3-piece Chicken Strip Lunch or a Chili Cheese Dog, which are all served with fries, a beverage and choice of a sundae. For just $1 more, fans also will have the option to upgrade their small sundae to a small Blizzard® Treat. The offer may vary in Texas.

The DQ Grill & Chill store in Fort Lauderdale features DQ favorites, such as the iconic Blizzard® Treats, MooLatté® frozen coffee-flavored beverages, DQ Cakes and a wide variety of other soft-serve items, as well as the full line of Orange Julius fruit-blended beverages. All Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies, Light Smoothies and Julius Original drinks are available in eight flavors including Orange, Strawberry, Strawberry Banana, Tripleberry®, Mango Pineapple, Berry Pomegranate, OrangeBerry and Piña Colada. In addition, protein or banana boosts can be added. The Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies fresh-blended to order with real fruit and low-fat yogurt. The Orange Julius Light Smoothies are 170 calories or less in a small size, contain no artificial sweeteners or flavors and are yogurt-free.

Design and Décor

The DQ Grill & Chill restaurant interior brings an innovative dimension to QSR dining. Highlighted by the modern open-air grill and separate "Grill" and "Chill" sections, the restaurant features comfortable booths and large wooden tables, warm lighting, music and an overall inviting environment.

The restaurant can seat 66 inside and offers a convenient drive-thru window.
