Pizza Pizza, Pizza 73 Raise $300,000 for Children's Miracle Network in 2013

Slices for Smiles program reaches $1.3 million in total donations to children's hospitals since 2008.

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - March 19, 2014) - Pizza Pizza Limited, with the help of customers of its Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73 banners, has raised $300,000 for children's hospitals in 2013. Generated as part of the Slices for Smiles program, the funds will go to Children's Miracle Network and its 14 member children's hospitals coast to coast. The total represents an increase, year after year since the inception of the partnership in 2008, bringing the grand total to over $1.3 million in total funds raised for Canada's leading children's hospitals.

"We are so proud of our customers, partners and team members," said Pat Finelli, Chief Marketing Officer for Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73. "One in four Canadians has visited a children's hospital, so supporting Children's Miracle Network is one of our most concrete forms of corporate giving. We are honored to be able to help make a difference through the Slices for Smiles Foundation and look forward to beating our record again next year."

The $300,000 raised through the Slices for Smiles Foundation this past year will remain within the communities in which they were raised and support the local Children's Miracle Network member hospitals for that region. This donation will help fund critical services, leading-edge research and excellence in care for millions of children in Canada.

"These funds are critical to the care and treatment of children," said John Hartman, Chief Operating Officer for Children's Miracle Network. "Over 4,900 children rely on the critical services and support provided by our member hospitals in Canada on a daily basis. Our partnerships with such committed organizations, like Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73, is crucial in helping to fund excellence in health care."

More than 460 Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73 restaurant locations across Ontario, Alberta, Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia and British Columbia participated in two Slices for Smiles fundraisers in April and October. Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73 also organized events with Children's Miracle Network member hospitals, patient ambassadors and local personalities to raise awareness and donations for the cause. Donations were also collected in store, online, by phone and through the company's mobile ordering apps.
