Massage Envy Spa Celebrates $1 Billion In System-Wide Sales

Leading Massage Therapy Franchise Opens 95 New Locations, Signs 1,200th Franchise Agreement and Expands into 48th State in 2013

March 24, 2014 // Franchising.com // SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Massage Envy Spa, the pioneer and national leader of professional, convenient and affordable massage and spa services, announced today unprecedented growth in 2013 by reaching $1 billion in system-wide sales during the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2013. Contributing to this major milestone, Massage Envy Spa opened 95 new clinics, which brings the total number of clinics to more than 960. The company also marked 2013 with expansion into Alaska and Montana, making its services available in 48 states. Thus far in 2014, Massage Envy Spa has opened 22 new locations, signed 10 new franchise agreements and recently opened in West Virginia, its 49th state.

Massage Envy Spa signed 100 franchise agreements in 2013, which totaled 1,211 licenses sold across the U.S. According to FRANdata, the franchise industry's source for objective information and analysis, only 2.4 percent of franchised brands operate 1,000 or more units. In 2014, Massage Envy Spa is poised to become one of the largest franchise systems in the country.

Today, with more than 960 Massage Envy Spa locations in 49 states, the company is the world's largest employer of licensed/registered massage therapists with more than 21,000 therapists and 3,000 estheticians providing 1.5 million services every month to a total of more than 1.4 million members.

Territories are still available in Cheyenne, Wyo.; Tuscaloosa, Ala.; Southern Los Angeles County, Calif.; Des Moines, Iowa; Manhattan, N.Y.; Little Rock, Ark.; Waco, Texas; Lansing, Mich.; and Oklahoma City, Okla.; as well as other major markets from coast-to-coast.

To fuel this growth, the company is looking for specific franchisee candidates who have the ability and the desire to learn and follow a system that ensures value and customer satisfaction. Qualified franchisee candidates should have business sales or management experience, but do not necessarily need to have a massage therapy or spa operations background. They also should possess a minimum net worth of $500,000 and liquid assets of at least $150,000. Depending on the real estate, Massage Envy Spa franchisees can expect their initial investment to range from approximately $331,485 – $825,623, including the franchise fee.
