Alamo Drafthouse Announces 'Blue Ruin' as Latest Drafthouse Recommends Title

April 04, 2014 // Franchising.com // Austin, TX - The Alamo Drafthouse is thrilled to announce Jeremy Saulnier's 'Blue Ruin' as the next Drafthouse Recommends title. Drafthouse Recommends spotlights first-run movies with the Alamo stamp of approval to indicate that we love this title and we think everyone should make an effort to see it. Our goal is to highlight groundbreaking, innovative and intelligent films we believe deserve to be seen by as many people as possible.

"Macon Blair's subtle and heartfelt performance as a most unlikely vigilante is one of the strongest of the year," says Drafthouse Founder Tim League. "Funny, thrilling and ultimately quite profound, 'Blue Ruin' fits well into the Drafthouse Recommends series, our take on the best independent films of the year."

'Blue Ruin' is a classic American revenge story following a mysterious outsider whose quiet life is turned upside down when he returns to his childhood home to carry out an act of vengeance. Proving himself an amateur assassin, he winds up in a brutal fight to protect his estranged family.

'Blue Ruin' opens in Austin on April 25th and expands to additional Alamo Drafthouse markets in May.

Director Jeremy Saulnier and actor Macon Blair will be in attendance at a special screening of 'Blue Ruin' at Alamo Drafthouse Slaughter Lane in Austin on Thursday, April 24. Visit drafthouse.com to purchase your tickets.

To celebrate the epic beard Macon Blair grew for the film, he and Jeremy Saulnier will judge the "Best Beard of Austin 2014" contest at the sneak preview screening on the 24th. 1st prize will include a $100 Alamo Drafthouse gift card, DVDs and more. The "Best Beard" contest will also take place on opening night in select Alamo Drafthouse markets when 'Blue Ruin' opens in additional markets in May.
