Following are highlights of the top award winners.

2013 Employee of the Year

Marsha McCreary, breakfast hostess from Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, Hanover, Virginia was named the 2013 employee of the year. Miss McCreary exemplifies the brand's Be Our Guest service philosophy which encourages employees to treat guests as if they were hosting them in their own home with a mindful, genuine and welcoming spirit. The friendly and caring service she provides has been acknowledged through countless guest letters. The hotel has received over 250 complimentary guest letters and reviews that name Ms. McCreary, earning her the brand's Gold Be Our Guest Pin, the highest level pin an employee can earn through guest recognition. Her colleagues say her warm and friendly attitude is infectious and they inspire them to be better employees and people.

2013 General Manager of the Year

Joe Freyer, Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, Anderson, South Carolina was named the 2013 general manager of the year. Mr. Freyer provides his employees with outstanding leadership, his guests with superior service and consistently delivers exceptional results to his hotel. Exceptional results for his hotel include: a significant increase in room revenue over the previous year, outstanding overall guest satisfaction and ranked number one on Trip Advisor in the hotels market and also recently received the prestigious "Trip Advisor Travellers Choice Award". Mr Freyer's hotel is also a 2013 President's Award winner, which is presented to the hotels that achieved top scores in guest satisfaction as measured by guest feedback for cleanliness and consistency in meeting (and often exceeding) the brand's product quality standards and a 2013 Be Our Guest Award winner which is presented to the hotels with the highest guest satisfaction ratings.

Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, Port Orange – Daytona, Florida lead by general manager, Tom Clapsaddle, was named the brand's 2013 Hotel of Year. The hotel has achieved outstanding performance in guest satisfaction, employee engagement and revenue generation and is ranked number one by Trip Advisor for all hotels in its market and recently received the prestigious "Trip Advisor Travellers Choice Award". Additionally, this hotel has the highest guest satisfaction score of any Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group location for the last two years. The hotel is also a 2013 President's Award winner.
