Medifast Sells a 12th Weight Control Center in Austin, Texas to Strategic Partner, Medix

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - May 5, 2014 // PRNewswire // - Medifast, Inc. (NYSE: MED), a leading United States manufacturer and provider of clinically proven, portion-controlled weight-loss products and programs, announced that its strategic partner, Medix, has acquired another Medifast Weight Control Center in Austin, Texas, bringing the total number of centers acquired to twelve.

This deal continues to advance Medifast's previously announced plan to transition their corporate weight control centers to the franchise model. Five centers have been sold in Miami, Florida, and seven in Texas - four in Austin and three in San Antonio, respectively. This strategic sale increases the total number of Medix locations featuring Medifast products and programs globally to 29.
