Ad Council Legacy Winner Opens New Business – Caring Transitions

Karen and Dan Menachof launch Caring Transitions of Rochester.

(PRWEB) May 06, 2014 - When 2014 Ad Council of Rochester Legacy Award Winner Karen Menachof looked back at her career in marketing, she knew it was time to expand her horizons. She loved her work, but she wanted to do something that made a difference for families in the Rochester community. That's why she and her husband Dan recently launched Caring Transitions of Rochester.

Caring Transitions specializes in helping individuals relocate, downsize and then take care of all that's been left behind (including the sale of items via online auctions). In addition to the organizing, packing and move oversight, Caring Transitions can handle on-site or online estate sales, preparing homes for the real estate market and more. Caring Transitions serves families in the Rochester and Canandaigua areas.

"Individuals are often so overwhelmed that they can't move forward with their plans. They get stuck and often delay moving, even though it's the very best thing for their physical and emotional well-being", Karen said. "We relieve the stress associated with managing these situations so that families can focus on their personal needs while we facilitate the move, maximize the value of their treasured belongings, and get their home ready to sell."

The Menachof family knows what it's like to downsize and clear out a home when someone has passed away – and the burdens of the situation.

"When my father-in-law succumbed to illness at 85, people kept asking me 'what are you kids going to do with all of the stuff.' It was said lovingly, even as a joke, because there was no question that this house had more stuff than ANYONE could deal with … This would have been a full-time job if any of us had truly wanted to maximize the value of these items, but no one had the time, energy, interest or expertise to make it happen. So we hired someone to handle it for us, took a few things we really wanted to remember him and his late wife by, and went home," Karen said.

"I wish I could tell you that we'd hired a Caring Transitions franchise in the Chicago area, but we didn't know then what we know now. We all wish we could hit the re-do button and start again. But then, it seems to me that, without this life lesson, we never would have been drawn to Caring Transitions and would never have had the courage to make our own life-altering transitions," she added.

Founded in 2006, the Caring Transitions franchise has been a trusted and highly respected national company leading the way in senior relocation, household liquidations and estate sale management in more than 130 locations across the United States.

Each Caring Transitions franchisee is a Certified Relocation and Transition Specialist (a designation bestowed by an independent organization that evaluates providers of senior relocation services) and all employees are trained, bonded and insured.

While working to build her budding franchise, Karen, who lives in Brighton, also won the 2014 Ad Council of Rochester Legacy Award.

The Ad Council's Legacy Award is given to past Lantern Award Winners who have continued to demonstrate extraordinary commitment to the Ad Council. The award, which was created in 2000, has only been given to 10 people. Karen has been involved with the Ad Council as a volunteer, board member, board chair and cheerleader for more than 20 years. During that time, she has worked with strategic planning, organizational sustainability, campaign development and program expansion.

"Working with the Ad Council and opening Caring Transitions are both ways of giving back and supporting this wonderful community. I was honored to be recognized for my role in the important work of the Ad Council," Karen said.

In addition to her work with the ad council, she also serves on the Board of the Jewish Community Center and co-chairs the Camp Seneca Lake Advisory Council.
