Gene Hennig Receives Lifetime Service Award from the Minnesota State Bar Association Business Law Section

May 21, 2014 // Franchising.com // MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The law firm of Gray Plant Mooty is honored to share that attorney Gene Hennig has received the Lifetime Service Award from the Minnesota State Bar Association Business Law Section, awarded at the Business Law Institute. The award recognizes Gene for his significant contributions to the bar, Minnesota businesses, and the community at large that will provide lasting benefit to each.

Gene has been practicing law for nearly 40 years, and his career has certainly left a lasting impact on the Minneapolis community. He is dedicated to giving back, actively providing pro bono legal service to lend a hand to those who otherwise could not afford needed legal help, and volunteering. He is a longtime volunteer and board member with LegalCORPS, a Minnesota organization that connects low-income owners of small businesses and nonprofits with free, high-quality legal services. In 1987, Gene cofounded the Bethania Kids Foundation, a Christian mission that supports the needs of over 1,000 destitute children in South India. He also cofounded the Chicago Lake Legal Aid Clinic, which now has been offering free assistance for landlord/tenant, domestic, immigration, and other legal issues for a decade.

Aside from practicing law, Gene also has had the privilege of teaching courses at both the William Mitchell College of Law and the University of St. Thomas School of Law. He has taught courses in corporate finance, secured transactions, debtor/creditor law, and insurance. He is remembered fondly by a number of students who continue to call him with questions long after graduation. Gene is a graduate of the Valparaiso University School of Law and College of Engineering.
