Interim HealthCare's "Calculating the Cost of Care" Focuses Long Term Care Planning on the Affordability of Care at Home

Infographic Compares Healthcare Costs For Long-Term Planning

SUNRISE, Fla. - May 21, 2014 // PRNewswire // - A new infographic, "Calculating the Cost of Care," has been released by Interim HealthCare Inc. showing nursing and assisted living facility costs ranged on average nationally from $94,170 to $41,124 annually, while in-home care was much more affordable at $29,640 per year and produced more positive health outcomes for individuals who do not need care around the clock.

"We think this concise and informative infographic will be a helpful tool and guide as Americans plan for their long-term healthcare needs," said Kathleen Gilmartin, president and CEO of Interim HealthCare. "We all know that America is aging at an extraordinary rate. We now also know that 82% of those seniors want to age in place and have better health outcomes when they do receive care in their own, familiar surroundings."

According to the Pew Research Center, 10,000 baby boomers turn 65 every day and by 2030, 18% of the nation will have reached that age at least. The Family Caregiver Alliance estimates that by 2050, 27 million people will need some form of paid care service, doubling from 13 million in 2000.

"A critical component of home care is the ability of people to remain in their home routines and have 100% healthcare access when the caregiver is present," Gilmartin said. "The infographic visually shows seniors who need assistance with activities of daily living - like bathing, dressing and cooking but not necessarily around the clock access to nursing care - benefit not only financially but clinically from in-home care."

To create the infographic, Interim HealthCare collected industry data including statistics from John Hancock, the National Association for Home Care and Hospice and the National Center for Biotechnology Information.

Interim HealthCare has nearly five decades in the healthcare industry.
