Paul Davis National Co-Sponsors Oconto High School "Beat the Heat" Program

May 23, 2014 // Franchising.com // Milwaukee, Wis. - The students at Oconto High School's "Beat the Heat" program received some much needed support with a donation of time, expertise and funding for students. Paul Davis National's Bruce Powell, a project manager, retired top dragster driver, and self-proclaimed "gear-head" spearheaded the effort to help students along with funding donations and help from other tradesmen and technicians. The restoration crews from Paul Davis recently performed major work to repair and clean the high school after a high-profile and devastating fire.

According to Powell, he and his team of volunteers worked with "Beat the Heat" advisor Herb Stuart on a fuel delivery project to repair a 1982 Ford Mustang, ultimately to compete in the local "Beat the Heat" race with other northeast Wisconsin students and law enforcement officers. Powell took notice of the class during the large loss restoration project and discovered the students needed help with the car and a variety of parts, including a new fuel cell and filter, and tying together the frame rails, among other items. Powell also worked with the students on several repairs needed on Paul Davis National work trucks.

With Powell's help, the students were able to fix the Mustang project car and compete in the local race which was held at Wisconsin International Raceway (WIR). One of the Oconto student drivers won the Teen Competition Racing (TCR) division with the other student drivers posting favorable and improved performances in the Student Racing division. The students took the car to speeds of approximately 96 MPH knowing they were operating a safe vehicle for the fun race, and that their classmates helped to repair the car. Powell will also donate his own professional drag race staging tree which will help the students with reaction times and staging of the car. Powell plans to continue his volunteer work with the students and help them with future "Beat the Heat" competitions.

According to Stuart, the generosity of Powell, Paul Davis National, and numerous other professionals included more than $1,700 in cash donations to the "Beat The Heat" student racing organization. "We are so touched by the interest from Paul Davis, Bruce and his co-workers. Not only did they work 24/7 to restore our school to a better than ever appearance, they also took the time to care about our students and their vocational and extracurricular activities," said Stuart.

Like many of Paul Davis' large losses, the Oconto High School fire damage project was a highly organized emergency response effort with closely followed protocol. The Oconto Unified School District and its insurance team along with crews from Milwaukee –based Paul Davis National and Paul Davis Restoration and Remodeling of Southeast Wisconsin worked onsite quickly with clean-up and stabilization shortly after the fire in early May.

On all Paul Davis jobs, team members show great compassion for their customers during some difficult times. "We take great pride in our work and the exceptional customer service provided by our staff. This is a perfect example of the extra mile performed by one of our crew members who took the initiative on his own to help. We commend Bruce for his care to support the Oconto High School students," said J. Murphy, Paul Davis National's Senior Vice President. For more information contact J.
