The Dairy Queen® System’s First-Ever Manhattan Location Opens

Restaurant Opens with Launch of New Big Apple Blizzard® Treat only Available in Manhattan

MINNEAPOLIS – May 29, 2014 - Manhattan residents and visitors will now have America's most iconic treats right around the corner.

The Dairy Queen® system, part of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A and BRK.B), is launching the opening of the first-ever DQ Grill & Chill® restaurant in Manhattan with a Big Apple Blizzard® Treat, that's only available there.

"This opening is certainly a long time in coming, but is well worth the wait," said John Gainor, president and CEO for International Dairy Queen, Inc. (IDQ). "Our fans have been requesting that we open in Manhattan so we are thrilled to finally be here. We're celebrating with a special Big Apple Blizzard Treat that is unique to Manhattan, but we also have a full food menu and, of course, all of our signature treats ready for our fans to enjoy."

Located at 54 West 14th St. between 5th and 6th Avenues, the Manhattan DQ Grill & Chill restaurant offers a range of food options and indulgent Dairy Queen soft-serve treats that everybody knows and loves including the featured Big Apple Blizzard Treat, a blend of real, diced Granny Smith apples in pie filling with cinnamon pie pieces blended with creamy DQ® vanilla soft serve and topped with whipped topping and cinnamon. In addition to iconic Blizzard Treats, DQ Cakes, cones, sundaes and award-winning shakes, the restaurant offers a full line of Orange Julius® fruit-blended beverages. All Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies, Light Smoothies and Julius Original drinks are available in eight flavors including Orange, Strawberry, Strawberry Banana, Tripleberry®, Mango Pineapple, Berry Pomegranate, OrangeBerry and Piña Colada.

Everything is bigger in New York and the DQ Grill & Chill restaurant is no exception. The Manhattan location is the only two-story DQ Grill & Chill restaurant in the country. The 2,500 square-foot location, which seats more than 100, will contribute to the state's restaurant sales which are projected to increase by 3.6 percent this year, according to the National Restaurant Association.

LSQ Foods operates the Manhattan location, and the company plans to expand in Manhattan with the DQ brand. In 2013, the Dairy Queen system also opened a DQ Grill & Chill restaurant in Massapequa and the Staten Island Ferry Terminal.
