Carvel Ice Cream Opens inside Auntie Anne's in South Station

Iconic Ice Cream Brand Celebrates Grand Opening of First Boston Location with 80 Cent Kids Cup or Cone on June 12

BOSTON - June 09, 2014 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Carvel®…America's Freshest Ice Cream, has arrived at Boston's South Station – just in time for summer. Now you can treat yourself to authentic soft serve ice cream cups & cones or indulge in a delicious sundae, signature thick shake or Carvelanche® mix-in. This convenient location is ideal for families, commuters and others who pass through the historic train station.

To celebrate the grand opening, Carvel will treat guests to kid's cups or cones filled with their choice of freshly made vanilla, chocolate or twist flavor soft serve ice cream for only 80 cents on Thursday, June 12. The offer is available all day from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m.

The 80 cent price commemorates the brand's 80th anniversary, happening this year. Express shoppes offer Carvel's most popular fountain items, including cups and cones, Classic Sundaes, Shakes and Carvelanche® blended treats.

The new location is owned by local Auntie Anne's franchise owner Bob Haas. Haas decided to add the Carvel express shoppe to his existing Auntie Anne's to offer commuters portable treats that complement the brand's fresh, hand-rolled snacks.

"We're thrilled to give busy commuters and travelers expanded menu options by bringing Carvel to South Station, the Northeast's favorite ice cream brand," said Haas. "Golden brown pretzels and fresh ice cream go great together, and because they're both extremely portable, are convenient to enjoy on the go."

In addition to South Station, which currently marks the only Carvel location in Boston, Carvel plans to develop full and express franchise locations throughout the state. Carvel express ice cream shoppes are franchises that are often located inside non-traditional venues, such as airports, universities, malls, travel venues, military bases, stadiums and arenas, and amusement parks.

This year, Carvel also unveiled a new full shoppe design to celebrate their 80th anniversary. The modern and inviting new shoppes feature updates that showcase Carvel menu items, including new dipping cabinets and a topping bar, as well as a large display area for the brand's signature ice cream cakes. Carvel has also added digital menu boards to communicate the company's broad variety of treats.
