Senior Legal Counsel From New York Not-For-Profit Health Plan Joins Nixon Peabody

Firm's Employee Benefits Team Welcomes Darcie Falsioni

June 19, 2014 // Franchising.com // Rochester, NY. - Nixon Peabody is pleased to welcome Darcie A. Falsioni, former senior deputy counsel of Independent Health Association Inc. IHA is a health insurance carrier headquartered in Buffalo that provides Western New York residents with innovative health-related products and services enabling affordable access to quality health care.

Darcie joins Nixon Peabody's Rochester office as counsel on our employee benefits team in our Labor & Employment practice. Darcie's role on IHA's legal team focused on advising internal clients and affiliates in employee benefits, human resource management, health law and self-funded services. She and her colleagues advised IHA's 365,000 members, 400+ self-funded employer groups, and 1,000+ associates on nearly 150 products and plans offered.

"The Affordable Care Act has drastically altered the delivery of health benefits in this country. Darcie's front-line experience and record for success adds greatly to the counsel we are able to provide to clients as they navigate the complexities of this changing landscape," said Eric Paley, Employee Benefits partner and co-leader of our firmwide Labor & Employment practice group.

In addition to her role with IHA, Darcie also spent the past two plus years serving as the director of legal and compliance at Nova Healthcare Administrators, Inc., an IHA subsidiary. Since 2009, she has been an adjunct professor at Hilbert College in New York, where she teaches an advanced level "Employment Benefits Law" course focused on the legal requirements and business concerns employers need to consider when offering mandated and discretionary benefits.

Carolyn G. Nussbaum, managing partner of our Rochester office, noted, "Darcie's years of in-house and private practice experience are a valuable asset. She understands clients' viewpoints and how to work collaboratively with colleagues to help them achieve their benefits goals. We're excited to welcome her to the firm."

Prior to joining IHA, Darcie spent 12 years in private practice specializing on employee benefits. She earned her JD from State University of New York at Buffalo Law School where she was articles editor of the Buffalo Journal of Public Interest Law. Darcie earned her BA, magna cum laude, from Canisius College and is currently a member of the college's Pre-Law Advisory Counsel.
