Realogy Hosts Clementi Family's "Speak Out" Event Against Bullying

(NYSE: RLGY), a global leader in real estate franchising and provider of real estate brokerage, relocation and settlement services, hosted a powerful "Speak Out" event on June 16, presented by James and Jane Clementi, brother and mother of Tyler Clementi, the Rutgers University freshman who took his own life in 2010 after a cyber-bullying attack on him by his college roommate.

The family's personal message drove home the impact of cyber-bullying, bullying, Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) inequality and suicide. Tyler's brother, James, has spoken at numerous corporations, colleges, high schools and to lawmakers to foster a civil positive dialogue that enables stronger and inclusive environments.

"We sincerely thank the Clementi family for a very powerful message – one that a lot of people need to hear," said Richard A. Smith, president and chief executive officer of Realogy. "My takeaway is that if you become aware of anyone being bullied, you should gather as many people to defend the individual being criticized. The more voices raised against a bully, the less power the bully exerts ? and that type of support can truly make a difference for those who need it most."

"People reaching out and showing support or love or encouragement to my brother at that time would have been a really powerful message," said James Clementi. "What my family would love is for social media to be used in positive ways to highlight stories of people doing good work and creating positive change in our society."

Realogy recorded the presentation at its New Jersey headquarters before an audience of employees, and shared it with its more than 11,000 employees worldwide.

In the wake of the tragedy that so deeply affected their lives, the Clementi family has helped to form the Tyler Clementi Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that promotes safe, inclusive and respectful social environments for LGBT youth. Through educational partnerships, research, public dialogue and awareness programs, the Foundation fosters empathetic, constructive discussions of respect and dignity for youth.
