June 26, 2014 // Franchising.com // WASHINGTON, D.C. – Amsterdam Falafelshop is going Falafel-ball-istic over fantastic recognition. The Adams Morgan mainstay and new star of 14th Street has earned one of Washington, D.C.'s most prestigious culinary awards.
The Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) recently announced Amsterdam Falafelshop as the winner of the "Favorite Fast Bites" category at the 32nd annual RAMMY Awards, which highlight the best in Washington, D.C.'s restaurant and foodservice industry. Amsterdam Falafelshop's accomplishment sets it apart as an elite restaurant concept and demonstrates its excellence among its peers in the industry.
"It's rewarding to know that Amsterdam Falafelshop's tasty falafel and colorful salad toppers combined with our authentic funky atmosphere hit the mark with our guests…this is validation for all the hard work that goes into running and evolving our brand," said Arianne Bennett, CEO of Amsterdam Falafelshop. "We are honored to win the most coveted local award in our competitive set and remain determined to carry on the tradition we are creating."
Winning the "Favorite Fast Bites" category in its first year on the awards list, Amsterdam Falafelshop went head to head with four other finalists made up of nominees such as delicatessens, quick-serve restaurants, mobile food vendors and coffee shops (with a food menu). The nominees must have been in operation for a minimum of one year as of December 1, 2013.
An anonymous panel of judges made up of food and dining journalists, educators and foodservice industry professionals selected the finalists in each of the categories. The voting public then let their opinions be known – selecting Amsterdam Falafelshop in its category.
Amsterdam Falafelshop has garned a global fan base and consistently tops best-food lists, receives widespread food-critic acclaim, and has won over the hearts of discerning customers who have made it a top restaurant on Yelp. In addition to serving fresh-made falafel sandwiches and Dutch-style fries ["frieten"], shops offer nearly two-dozen toppings for patrons to customize their falafel.
In addition to the original Adams Morgan shop and the new 14th Street franchise location, there are two Amsterdam Falafelshop franchise locations currently operating - one in Annapolis, Md. and one in Boston. Additionally, there are five more shops planned for the Greater D.C. area, three more in the Boston market and multiple locations are planned for Salt Lake City and Dallas-Fort Worth.
Since opening in 2004 in the heart of Washington, D.C.'s Adams Morgan neighborhood, Amsterdam Falafelshop has become a magnetic destination. The top-it-yourself falafel sandwich and Dutch-style fries shop with a vibe and culture tailored to meeting the taste and atmospheric demands of urbanites nationwide creates an unforgettable, unique experience in every community it enters. Shops retain a feeling of neighborhood independence amid a period of crucial franchise growth. With three locations operating today and multiple units in development, plans call for an exponential increase in franchised sister-shops, adding dozens of Amsterdam Falafelshop franchise locations across urban centers nationwide.
