The Little Gym Shares 4 Ways to Help Your Child Become a 'Social Butterfly'

Some children struggle with shyness and social anxiety. Your friends at The Little Gym share 4 ways to help them break out of their cocoons to become social butterflies.

Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) July 17, 2014 - The fact of the matter is that not all children are social butterflies. Some children have anxiety about interacting with other kids, especially in a new and unfamiliar setting. As parents and caregivers, we need to set our children up for social success. The best way to do this is to encourage and teach children to interact with their peers. Whether at your local The Little Gym, at school, or on the playground, it is important for children to have social interaction with kids their own age. Here are 4 ways you can help your child become a 'Social Butterfly':

  1. Be Kind: Teach your kids the importance of kindness. Kindness is a key factor in socialization. A great way to implement kindness is to role play; ask your child how certain situations would make them feel. Through roll play, your child will more easily understand how important it is to be kind to others.
  2. Take Turns: It is important for children to take turns when playing with others because it gives everyone a chance to have fun. Encouraging your child to take turns teaches them how to interact positively with his or her peers.
  3. Listen: Children need to learn the importance of listening to what their peers have to say. By taking turns speaking with and listening to their friends, children will be able to have fun and engage in conversations.
  4. Smile: A warm smile goes a long way. Smiles are usually the seeds to blossoming friendships.

Every child is different. Some children are naturally out-going while others enjoy observing before taking the plunge. Whether your child is outgoing or shy, there are many simple tools to teach your child how to effectively communicate with others, allowing them to be comfortable with making new friends.
