Vanessa K. Burrows Joins Roetzel's Chicago Office

July 30, 2014 // Franchising.com // The Chicago office of Roetzel & Andress, LPA, welcomes attorney Vanessa K. Burrows to the firm as an associate in the Health Care, Drug & Pharmacy Group.

Ms. Burrows focuses her practice on health care law, with an emphasis on medical device, drug, and pharmacy law. Her broad-based experience also includes HIPAA/HITECH compliance, health privacy and security laws, and public health law.

Before joining Roetzel, Ms. Burrows was an attorney and HIPAA Privacy Officer for the City of Chicago. In that role, she advised on investigations, programs, operations, contracts, intergovernmental agreements, policies, laws, and regulations. She provided guidance on federal and state regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness authorities, and state public health laws on issues such as communicable diseases, pharmacy and scope of practice laws, mental health, tobacco, and quarantine and isolation. From 2006-2012, Ms. Burrows was a Legislative Attorney for the Congressional Research Service in Washington, D.C., where she was a nonpartisan expert advising Members of Congress and their staff in the areas of health law, with an emphasis on FDA legal issues (food, drugs, medical devices, cosmetics, and tobacco), administrative law, and constitutional law.

Ms. Burrows brings her experience to bear in the continuing expansion of the firm's Health, Drug & Pharmacy practice team. The team applies an integrated approach to assist clients in addressing the multifaceted and complex issues that face a wide range of health care industry organizations, personnel, and ancillary health care service providers. Our attorneys deliver a wide array of legal skills coupled with a thorough knowledge of the industry and a keen understanding of new developments and their implications.

Ms. Burrows holds a J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law, a M.A. from Queen's University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and a B.A. from Valparaiso University.
