National Chain Unveils New Cedar Park Location & Announces Slew of Upcoming Store Openings in the Lone Star State

September 26, 2014 // Franchising.com // NEW ORLEANS - Smoothie King held a grand opening event on Saturday at its new (and very first) store in Cedar Park, TX. The Austin area store opening represented somewhat of a milestone for the 40-year-old company, which opened its first location in 1973.

"We realized that the new Cedar Park location was going to be our 700th store, so decided to celebrate the occasion the Smoothie King way, by incorporating fitness challenges and offering healthy smoothies to those in attendance," said Wan Kim, owner and CEO of Smoothie King.

At the event, Hill Country area kids were encouraged to participate in the "Smoothie King 700 Step Challenge," a fitness activity designed to get children to be more physically active. Participants were given a card to track their progress as they complete tasks throughout the week like drinking water, jumping rope or eating fruits and vegetables. Kids with completed cards can redeem them at any Smoothie King store for a free smoothie. The winner of the challenge will be crowned Smoothie King or Smoothie Queen and will receive special recognition through an award and free gifts.

With its store opening and fitness challenge, Smoothie King hopes to entice Cedar Park residents to adopt healthier lifestyles by incorporating more fitness into their daily routines, and adding smoothies and healthy snacks to their diets.

Under its accelerated expansion plan, Smoothie King plans to open more than 1,000 stores across the United States over the next 3 years. The Metairie, La.-based company reports it has extensive franchise opportunities available in the Southeast, mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions, as well as Texas.

In the Lone Star State, Smoothie King already has plans to open 5 new stores in Houston and 1 new store in San Marcos by the end of 2014. In 2015, the privately held company, (which is primarily franchisee-driven), will open 5 new franchise stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, 13 new franchise stores in the Houston area, 1 in Denton and 5 new stores in the San Antonio area.

Also next year, Smoothie King will open 2 new corporate stores in Dallas and 1 new corporate store in San Antonio. The new Cedar Park store is a corporate store as well.

The new Cedar Park store is Smoothie King’s fifth Austin-area location and is located at Cedar Park Town Center, 909 E Whitestone Blvd. Other local Smoothie King locations are on William Cannon Drive, North Lamar Boulevard, West 24th Street and in Round Rock.
