50-Year-Old National Casual Dining Brand Makes List after Impressive Sales & Unit Growth

DALLAS - October 09, 2014 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - It is no easy feat to stand out in the over-crowded, ultra-competitive casual dining segment. Brands must differentiate themselves from competitors in order to successfully grow their business and one national casual dining brand has done just that. Boston's Restaurant & Sports Bar, a 400-unit casual dining concept with locations across Canada, the United States and Mexico, announced its impressive rankings on Franchise Times Top 200 List. The company was listed at No. 82 for the 2014 rankings, which measures franchise brands based on total worldwide system sales.

The brand was named to the top family dining/fast-casual restaurants after a notable 3.1 percent sales growth and 7.1 percent unit growth over the past year. With annual system-wide revenue at $1.6 billion, Boston's is poised to continue to dominate the casual dining segment, both here and abroad. Boston Pizza already controls the casual dining segment in Canada and recently, Boston's Restaurant & Sports Bar, the U.S. sister brand, re-launched its franchise opportunity in order to expand the concept here in the states with the goal to grow to 63 restaurants in the U.S. by 2018.

Treliving, a former Royal Canadian Mounted Police, opened the first Boston Pizza franchise in Penticton, BC in 1968 and by 1983, Treliving and Melville had purchased the entire 44-unit chain. Today, the company has over 400 locations across North America and Treliving and Melville remain involved in both Canadian and U.S. operations as CEO and President, respectively.
