Learning Express Toys of Lake Zurich Brings Smiles to the Hospital

October 10, 2014 // Franchising.com // Learning Express Toys of Lake Zurich is continuing its commitment to the local community by partnering with Lurie Children's Hospital.

Rick and Joanne Derr, owners of Learning Express Toys of Lake Zurich, donated 48 Rainbow Loom kits and 180 packages of bands to the hospital. Mia, a local girl who is fighting cancer, gladly made the delivery of items to the children in the hospital on September 30 - to close out Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Derr also donated a gift basket to raffle off at the fundraiser in support of Mia's medical care. "Connecting with children who are in need is one of the aspects of owning a toy store that is most meaningful to my wife and me," says Rick.

Learning Express Toys of Lake Zurich was a leader in helping to raise awareness of the MaxLove Project during the retailer's nationwide partnership with the nonprofit. Max, a 7-year-old from Orange County, CA - the inspiration for MaxLove Project - is battling brain cancer.

Mia and her friends visited Learning Express Toys of Lake Zurich to loom in honor of Max in the summer and helped the Lake Zurich store to raise $1,000 for the MaxLove Project.

Learning Express Toys of Lake Zurich recently celebrated its 18th Anniversary, and its involvement in the community is one aspect that sets it apart from many other retailers. "We are not just a toy store," says Rick. "We are a place that gives back to those who need our help."
