Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers is Now Open in Blacksburg, Virginia

Blacksburg, Va (PRWEB) November 05, 2014 - Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers is now open in Blacksburg, Va., at 207 South Main Street. This Mellow unites traditional Southwestern Virginian historical elements with a modern flair to create a fun and exciting hangout for the Virginia Tech and Blacksburg communities.

Owners Jeff and Leslie Knapp met as freshmen at Virginia Tech, and their three children, Drew, Sarah and Ashley, have all attended Virginia Tech as well. Says Leslie, "Blacksburg is our second home, and we wanted to share our favorite family restaurant with Blacksburg and Virginia Tech."

The newest Mellow Mushroom intertwines the vernacular architecture of Southwestern Virginia's industrial heyday with more contemporary elements of current restaurant design, while retaining the unique spirit that defines Mellow Mushroom.

The rustic brick façade recalls small town turn of the century warehouses commonly found scattered across the region. Glazed overhead doors and clerestory windows front the outdoor patio and fire pit, allowing ample daylight and flexible seating configurations for all weather enjoyment.

Inside the restaurant, unique, custom welded, spherical chandeliers cast colorful shadows across exposed rafters and vintage murals, recalling the early billboards painted on the sides of barns throughout the South. Regional and traditional building materials such as weathered metal roof panels, reclaimed lumber, and raw steel piping fill the space and further acknowledge yesteryear.

In addition to drawing from the rich history of Southwestern Virginia, the designers, proud alumni of Virginia Tech, subtly acknowledged the Hokie Nation the restaurant will serve. Whether it be the Department of Dairy Science, represented by a chandelier constructed out of milk bottles, the School of Agriculture, exemplified by a custom table fabricated from tractor parts, or the Corp of Cadets, emblematized by Skipper's stray fire, there is humor and homage juxtaposed around every corner.

The full service bar features a wide array of craft beers, an extensive wine list and fresh handcrafted cocktails. It also does not hurt to have sixty draft beers and a massive outdoor patio overlooking Main and Washington for Blacksburg's legendary gamedays. Mellow Mushroom is also a great place to host a meeting, party or event. Catch day to day sporting events on one of the large screen televisions in the bar or dining area.
