Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker Celebrates Win with Wisconsin-Based Toppers Pizza

Toppers Pizza Founder Scott Gittrich Challenges Governor to Toppers "Skin Sprint" for Charity

November 10, 2014 // Franchising.com // WHITEWATER, Wis. - After claiming victory in the Wisconsin governor's race, Governor Scott Walker and his team were happy and hungry. So, naturally, they made a call to Wisconsin-based Toppers Pizza, a brand that specializes in both increasing happiness and satisfying hunger, to celebrate with some pizza.

West Allis Toppers Pizza Manager Tyler Winkelman took the call a little after midnight and spoke with Wisconsin First Lady Tonette Walker who placed an order for a variety of the brand's famous 16-inch party size pizzas and Topperstix. Governor Walker's office confirmed they ordered Toppers as part of their election night celebration and mentioned that the Governor enjoyed the victory feast.

"We're happy Governor Walker chose to order his pizza from a Wisconsin-based company that's helping grow the economy and add jobs in the state," said Scott Gittrich, Founder & President of Toppers Pizza. "We know Governor Walker likes the taste of Toppers Pizza, but I wonder if he's got the pepperonis to take the Toppers Pizza 'Skin Sprints' challenge and find out if he has what it takes to create one of our always-favorably-polling pizzas himself."

The Whitewater-based company's "Skin Sprints" competition is a speed pizza-making competition that consists of tossing, stretching and saucing the dough for six pizzas, while staying true to the Toppers commitment to excellence. The company holds the competition every year at their annual convention to energize their franchise base and stress the need combine quickness with quality. A video showcasing the "Skin Sprints" competitions can be found on the Toppers Pizza YouTube page here.

"I'm putting forth an open challenge for Governor Walker to visit one of our many Wisconsin Toppers Pizza locations and take me on in a 'Skin Sprints' competition," said Gittrich. "We'll even put him through a little training so he's prepared. If he can beat me, we will donate $10,000 to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin and we'll grant the Governor free pizza for the entirety of his new term in office. But if I win, the Governor must declare our company's birthday, August 9th, as 'Toppers Pizza Day' throughout Wisconsin."

Toppers Pizza has partnered with Feeding America®, the nation's leading domestic hunger-relief charity, for the past four years. In 2014, the brand has already raised over $95,000 bringing the four year total to nearly $250,000. Every dollar donated to Feeding America® provides eight meals for families in need, so that is the equivalent of nearly 2,000,000 meals. In addition, to further aid hunger relief, Gittrich personally matched 50 cents for every dollar the company has raised since 2011.

Toppers Pizza will increase their number of locations in the state of Wisconsin to 33 with openings in Menasha and Menomonee Falls before the end of 2014. The brand plans to open an additional 5-10 locations in Wisconsin by the end of 2015, which will lead to the creation of roughly 300 jobs across the state. The company currently employs more than 650 in Wisconsin, and more than 1250 across the U.S.
