HouseMaster Home Inspections Expands to the Corridor

Female Inspector Opens Franchise

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - (Marketwired - January 05, 2015) - HouseMaster, the first and one of the largest home inspection franchise companies in North America, has announced lifelong resident, Kelly Murphy, will now offer professional, guaranteed HouseMaster Home Inspection Services in the Corridor area including the towns of Iowa City, Cedar Rapids and the surrounding area.

According to Murphy, a comprehensive home inspection is one of the most important steps buyers can take to ensure they are making an informed real estate investment.

"Having a home inspected by a qualified professional who backs their service with a written guarantee is one of the best ways home buyers can gather the information they need to feel confident they are making a sound decision. Consumers particularly appreciate our complimentary Limited Repair Reimbursement Guarantee," adds Murphy. As part of the home inspection, Murphy provides a detailed report, with pictures, on the condition of all the accessible major systems of the home including heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical systems along with roofing and structural elements. "We encourage our customers to accompany us on the inspection so we can answer any questions they may have, demonstrate how to operate many of the major systems of the home and provide tips on maintenance and how to save energy," adds Murphy.

One of the growing trends in the industry is sellers having their homes inspected before a buyer comes along. "This allows the seller to change anything that could negatively affect the appraised value of the home or come up in a buyer's inspection," notes Murphy.

Previously, Murphy had been an IBEW Local 405 electrician for 7 years. Her union consisted of over 700 people, where less than ten were women. Prior to her electrical career, she worked in construction. While there she often encountered being the only woman in predominantly male occupation. Murphy states, "This is the work I've always loved doing and will continue to show that passion in the HouseMaster franchise."

Murphy says, "Before joining HouseMaster, I was always working with my hands and building things. From a young age, I have had a fascination with the construction and housing industry. As a little kid instead of watching cartoons, I would watch the Iowa Realty Home Show every Sunday morning and as the internet became popular I would spend a lot of time online looking at houses on Skogman's website. With my electrician and construction background and passion for everything to do with real estate, getting into the field of home inspections seems like a great fit."

Murphy attended both the University of Iowa and the Cedar Rapids JATC (Journeymen & Apprentice Training Center). In 2010, she graduated the JATC and is still the last female to have done so. Murphy is a member of the American Society of Home Inspectors, National Institute of Building Inspectors and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. On a personal level, she became active in cancer charities when she lost her mother to cancer in 2012. She does walks, benefits, and participates in fund raising.

"After researching the HouseMaster franchise and communicating as well as visiting the home office, I believed this company would help me be successful in the home inspection industry. It has a solid reputation and an amazing support system. I'm proud of this company and I look forward to spreading the name HouseMaster through eastern Iowa," says Murphy.
