Orangetheory Fitness of Mount Prospect Announces National Weight Loss Challenge

The newly-opened Mount Prospect, IL Orangetheory Fitness franchise is pleased to be a part of the National Orangetheory Fitness Weight Loss Challenge, which begins January 15. Participants who sign up at their local Orangetheory Fitness Studio will have the opportunity to compete for $50,000 as they take steps towards taking control of their own fitness.

Mount Prospect, IL (PRWEB) January 13, 2015 - The Mount Prospect, IL branch of the Orangetheory Fitness Studio wishes to invite its members to sign up for the National Orangetheory Fitness Weight Loss Challenge. This six-week weight loss challenge, which is open to participants at all Orangetheory franchises, begins on January 15 and has a cash prize pool of $50,000.

The Mount Prospect studio opened its doors in October and held its own in-house six-week fitness challenge after its grand opening, recognizing both a male and female winner. The female winner walked away from the challenge 22 pounds lighter and with a newfound commitment to her own personal fitness goals. When asked about the challenge, she stated "I started OTF in October 2014 when they had free sessions for those who signed up during the pre-sales. After my first free session, I was convinced and decided to sign up for eight sessions a month. After two weeks, I was completely hooked! This has been the best investment I made for myself in 2014. The weight loss challenge was perfect motivation."

Orangetheory Fitness is based on a unique scientific principle that capitalizes on a phenomenon known as “Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption” aimed at improving caloric burn, not just during the workout, but also for the following 24 to 36 hours. The participant who spends one hour working out at the Orangetheory Fitness studio will burn between 500 and 1,000 calories. This calorie burn will continue with an additional 200 to 400 calories in the next 24 to 36 hours after the workout due to the excess post-exercise oxygen consumption.

In order to maximize calorie burn during the workout, Orangetheory focuses on heart rate-based interval training. Equipped with a heart rate monitor, participants perform multiple intervals that push the heart rate to or beyond the 84 percent mark for 12 to 20 minute periods. Each workout is different, but maintains this core philosophy.

The male winner of the Mount Prospect weight loss challenge who proudly lost a total of 35 pounds, believed the variety of workouts was key to maintaining his motivation to stick with the program. "I don't have the time to develop a fitness plan on my own," he commented. With Orangetheory Fitness, "the workouts change daily and are overseen by excellent instructors that care about their work. The process builds in accountability and teamwork, elements that work me."

Those who are interested in joining the national competition and having the chance to get in shape while competing for a cash prize should sign up through their local Orangetheory Fitness Studio. Signup is available until January 15, and the challenge ends on February 26, 2015. Participants should be willing to commit to a minimum of three, hour-long workouts per week.
