Wisconsin-Based Pizza Franchise Responds to Seattle Suburb's Cheese Ban

Free Large 1-Topping Pizza for Anyone Who Takes a Stand to #LegalizeCheese

WHITEWATER, Wis. - Jan. 16, 2015 // PRNewswire // - To deprive its citizens of Wisconsin's most beloved export, Seattle suburb Bainbridge, Wash. banned cheese consumption today in preparation for Sunday, January 18, 2015, when the Green Bay Packers take on the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship game.

City Manager Douglas Schulze stated, "Due to the relationship between the Green Bay Packers, their fans, and cheese, the possession of and/or consumption of cheese or cheese flavored products shall be banned in Bainbridge Island City Hall on Friday, January 16, 2015."

Toppers Pizza takes the real Wisconsin cheese that tops its made-from-scratch dough seriously. "The very thought of a government depriving its residents of cheese … it's beyond comprehension," said Scott Gittrich, founder and president of Toppers Pizza. "As soon as we heard about the ban, we knew we had to do something."

To show its devotion to real Wisconsin cheese, Toppers fanatics are encouraged to submit photos holding a #LegalizeCheese sign in exchange for a coupon for a free large 1-topping pizza.

To qualify, all photos must be sent to www.facebook.com/ToppersRocks or www.twitter.com/ToppersPizza by 6:30 p.m. CT on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015; one coupon per person.

About Toppers Pizza

In 1991, Toppers Pizza began its quest to become the best pizza company in the world by killing it on every detail of the customer experience. Headquartered in Whitewater, Wis., Toppers takes a unique approach to the crowded pizza segment by cooking up mouthwatering specialty pizzas that start with their fresh, made-from-scratch dough, smothered in real Wisconsin cheese and finished with outrageous toppings such as French fried onions, oven-roasted tomatoes, mac 'n cheese and tater tots. Toppers' claim to fame comes in the form of Topperstix™, arguably the planet's most addictively delicious cheesy breadstix. The Toppers empire encompasses more than 60 restaurants across 11 states and, with its rapid expansion, is in the midst of Midwest and national domination. In 2014, Entrepreneur Magazine ranked Toppers as one of the top 500 franchises in the U.S and QSR Magazine listed the company as one of the year's Best Franchise Deals. In 2013, Nation's Restaurant News declared the brand as one of the 50 breakout chains of the year and Toppers received a No. 58 spot in Pizza Today's top 100 pizza companies.
