Curves® and Jenny Craig® Join Fight to Fund ALS Research

Throughout February 2015, Curves and Jenny Craig will execute an integrated campaign with ALS.net to fund research towards discovering effective treatments and eventually a cure for ALS.

CAMBRIDGE, MA (PRWEB) February 04, 2015 - The ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS.net) announced today a cause marketing partnership with Curves®, the largest chain of fitness centers for women in the world and Jenny Craig®, a leader in the weight loss industry, to fund research into a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Throughout February 2015, Curves and Jenny Craig will execute an integrated campaign with ALS.net to fund research that will bring us closer to discovering effective treatments and eventually a cure.

ALS affects the lives of many, and Curves and Jenny Craig have not been untouched. Augie Nieto, who sits on the board of North Castle Partners (the parent company of Curves and Jenny Craig), has been living with the disease for over ten years and Jenny Craig’s Vice President of Operations, Lauren Witsenburg, lost her battle with ALS in 2013. Nieto is also chairman of the board of the ALS Therapy Development Institute and Chief Inspiration Officer of Augie’s Quest.

"As a company, we’ve experienced the effects of this cruel disease personally," said Monty Sharma, CEO and president of Curves and Jenny Craig. "We are honored to work with the ALS Therapy Development Institute to help fund research to find a cure and invite consumers to get involved through both Jenny Craig and Curves during the month of February."

Through their respective February campaigns, Jenny Craig will encourage members to donate to ALS research during a food purchase and members and guests to donate through http://www.als.net/jennycraig, in-center or online, and Curves is offering a $5 for 5 free workouts* fundraiser card or to donate through http://www.als.net/curves.

"This partnership makes so much sense as both our organizations have seen our leaders courageously battle ALS. We are proud to partner with Jenny Craig and Curves in this unique way," says Steve Perrin, Ph.D., CEO and CSO of the ALS Therapy Development Institute. "The Curves and Jenny Craig campaigns will fund crucial research projects at the Institute, such as our precision medicine program, which empowers people living with ALS to be involved directly in the discovery and development of effective treatments and ultimately a cure."

About ALS

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that leads to paralysis, due to the death of motor neurons in the spinal cord and brain. There is no known cure for the disease. About 5,000 people in the US are diagnosed with ALS each year; the incidence is similar to multiple sclerosis. However, with no effective treatment, the average patient survives only 2-5 years following diagnosis. The worldwide population of ALS patients is estimated at 450,000.
