February 25, 2015 // Franchising.com // MADISON, N.J. – Century 21 Real Estate, the iconic brand and franchisor with the largest global network in the residential real estate industry including approximately 6,900 independent offices worldwide, today announced the results of the Century 21® commissioned "Binge Watching Survey" which was conducted online by Harris Poll on their behalf in January among over 4,000 U.S. adults. In anticipation of this week's release of the hit Netflix series, House of Cards, Century 21 Real Estate sought to gain insight into the prevalent practice of binge watching, which consists of viewing multiple episodes of a television program in rapid succession and is an increasingly common method of television consumption.
The results showed that 58% of U.S. adults have ever binge watched a show, so for those who haven't, they are in the minority. Nearly all (99%) of these TV watchers are binging in their own home, and 70% are not watching alone as they admit to binging with other people. However, 62% of co-bingers say they have or would 'cheat' on their TV companion to watch ahead in a TV series.

*58% of U.S. adults have ever binge watched a TV show or series
*62% of co-bingers have or would "binge cheat" on a TV-watching partner in order to watch ahead in their favorite television series.
*Unmarried co-bingers are significantly more likely than their married counterparts to say they have ever cheated on a binge partner (44% vs. 31%, respectively).
*Of all binge watchers, 99% say they binge watch in the comfort of their own homes.
*Nearly six in ten (58%) state the living room as the most popular binge watching location.
*Unmarried bingers (57%) are significantly more likely than married bingers (37%) to binge in the bedroom.
*Additionally, seven in ten (70%) of bingers are co-bingers (i.e., watch with others).
*Nearly half (48%) of binge watchers who are parents with kids under 18 in their household say they binge with their children.
This survey was conducted online within the United States between January 13-15 & January 14-16, 2015 among 4,053 adults aged 18 and older -- 2,265 of whom are binge watchers (have ever binge watched a TV show/series) and 1,480 are co-bingers (binge watch with others), by Harris Poll on behalf of Century 21 Real Estate via its Quick Query omnibus product. Figures for age, sex, race/ethnicity, education, region and household income were weighted where necessary to bring them into line with their actual proportions in the population. Propensity score weighting was used to adjust for respondents' propensity to be online.
