Griswold Cares Foundation Awards $30,000 in Grant Funds

The Griswold Cares Foundation awards a total of $30,000 to 38 Nonprofit Organizations, including ITNCoastalCT in Fairfield County, CT

Stratford, CT (PRWEB) March 15, 2015 - The Griswold Cares Foundation, a private charity established in 2010, was created by Griswold Home Care to further the company’s belief that care for the elderly and disabled should be available to all and not just the privileged few. The Griswold Cares Foundation’s vision is a future in which all seniors and adults with disabilities, including those with limited financial means, will have the opportunity to live a full life and age with dignity in the comfort of their own homes. In order to carry out this vision, and to give back to the communities they serve, the Foundation provides grants for select community programs such as ITNCoastalCT, that help people age in place who otherwise could not afford to do so. Donations to the foundation by Griswold Home Care franchisees, friends, and family exceeded expectations in 2014 and allowed the Foundation to award $30,000 worth of grants to 38 nonprofit organizations across the nation.

This year, the Griswold Cares Foundation received an increase in the number of proposals from nonprofits that were in need of dollars to support their mission. “We are extremely honored to have received so many proposals from nonprofit organizations during our annual funding cycle,” said Amanda Hope, Executive Director of the Foundation. “We appreciate the opportunity to learn more about these organizations and to help support the great work that many of them are doing in their communities.” The proposals were carefully reviewed by the Foundation’s Grants Committee, comprised of Board Members and volunteers, to determine which programs best aligned with their mission and funding priorities. ITNCoastalCT was one of the organizations chosen because of their dedication to keeping older adults independent, safe and mobile in their community.

ITNCoastalCT was awarded a $1,500.00 due to their amazing mission of providing a community supported, economically viable and consumer oriented, quality transportation service for seniors and adults with visual impairments. Older adults who join ITN become dues-paying members of a non-profit organization committed to their independence and mobility. The transition from the driver’s seat to the passenger seat is never easy, for the drivers or for their families, but it is infinitely easier when there is a viable transportation alternative that keeps the older adult in control. ITN provides excellent customer service with the arm-through-arm, door-through-door standard that sets them apart from other transportation services. The grant awarded to ITN will provide older adults with rides at a reasonable rate, and also help those who are unable to pay for a ride to receive them through a “Road Scholarship.”

Like using one’s own automobile, the ITN service is available 24/7 for any purpose, and gives customers the flexibility to schedule their rides in advance or as needed, as well as an option to ride alone or with others. ITNCoastalCT uses volunteer drivers who are ready and willing to provide riders individual assistance, such as providing a steadying hand, helping with stairs, carrying groceries and packages, opening and holding heavy doors, folding walkers and wheelchairs and escorting riders to and from vehicles, through the doors and into the interior of their destinations.
