Duck Donuts to Open First New Jersey Location on April 12

April 09, 2015 // Franchising.com // MIDDLETOWN, N.J. - The iconic made-to-order donuts from the Outer Banks of North Carolina will become a New Jersey staple when Duck Donuts in Middletown celebrates its grand opening on April 12.

Members of the media and the public are invited to join the celebration from 12 to 2 p.m. at Ventura Plaza, 1275 Route 35. The event will be broadcast live on 94.3 FM “The Point” and will include a ribbon cutting ceremony led by Middletown Township Mayor Stephanie Murray.

The store is owned and will be operated by Matt Erickson of Middletown. Erickson, 22, is the youngest Duck Donuts franchisee to date. “My passion for food and my desire to create and manage something from the ground up led me to open the location,” he explained.

Erickson’s fond memories of family vacations to the Outer Banks that included visits to Duck Donuts also inspired his vision. “I want to bring the same fun, interactive experience to the Middletown community year-round,” he said.

Duck Donuts specializes in warm, delicious and made-to-order donuts. Customers can choose from a variety of topping combinations, including traditional favorites such as chocolate icing with sprinkles and more adventurous creations such as maple icing with bacon.

Fans from up to 100 miles away have expressed anticipation of the opening on the store’s Facebook page, where Erickson has chronicled its journey since construction began last year: www.facebook.com/duckdonuts.MiddletownNJ.

The family-friendly spot includes a viewing area where children and adults alike can watch their donuts being made. Duck Donuts also sells coffee, tea, muffins, breakfast sandwiches and more.

Matt Erickson is a 2014 graduate of The College of New Jersey with a degree in business management, and is a lifetime resident of Middletown. He is the co-founder of HelpLight NJ, a nonprofit student organization that has distributed more than 190,000 energy-saving light bulbs to needy families since 2007.
