Native Grill & Wings to Crown New Wing King

Restaurant chain hosts the 2015 World Wing-Eating Championship in Arizona alongside Major League Eating

April 09, 2015 // Franchising.com // GILBERT, AZ – Native Grill & Wings, an award winning Arizona restaurant chain known for its 20 wing flavors that guests can order by the individual wing, will be hosting the 2015 World Wing Eating Championship on Saturday, April 18 at the Arizona Sports Fan Expo at WestWorld of Scottsdale, AZ.

The number-one-ranked eater in the world, Joey “Jaws” Chestnut will join other top Major League Eaters in a 10-minute all-you-can-eat championship for a $10,000 purse. Other eaters include the #4-ranked Miki Sudo of Las Vegas, the #6-ranked Eric Denmark of Seattle, the #7-ranked Adrian Morgan of Baton Rouge and the #9-ranked Michelle Lesco of Tuscan.

“We are thrilled to host Major League Eating and its competitors for this one-of-a-kind competition,” said Native Grill & Wings CEO, Dan Chaon. “Although most of our customers enjoy our wings in smaller numbers with the ability to have a different sauce on each wing, we are excited to witness the shear volume that the eaters will devour.”

The amount of wings eaten at the event won’t be the only quickly growing number. Native Grill & Wings primarily focused its expansion efforts over the past 35 years in Arizona, where all but two of the chain’s 31 restaurants are located. Now, Native Grill & Wings has finally begun to aggressively break into emerging markets across the country. Company plans call for opening six new restaurants in 2015 and having as many as 100 total locations nationwide by 2020.

There are already 14 new restaurants in various stages of development throughout Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Mississippi, Montana, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming.

“Our mission is to provide our guests with excellent service, exceptional food, and a memorable experience, while continuing to be the coolest place for the hottest wings,” Chaon said.

The championship will begin at 3 p.m. and a large crowd of wing lovers and fans of competitive eating is expected for the event. “This wing discipline is about technique and not just volume and Joey may well be beaten by the other top eater in this event,” said George Shea, Chair of MLE.

Free tickets are available at all Phoenix-based Native Grill & Wings locations.
