Local Residents Open FirstLight HomeCare Serving Fairfield County Communities

New business to provide in-home care and support services for local community.

May 01, 2015 // Franchising.com // Fairfield County, Conn. - FirstLight HomeCare, provider of quality, affordable, nonmedical in-home care for adults, is now open serving communities throughout Fairfield County. It is owned and operated by Ridgefield residents John and Wenjun Richards, with offices in Norwalk and Ridgefield.

FirstLight HomeCare of Fairfield County offers complete companion and personal care services for seniors, new mothers, those recovering from surgery and others in need of assistance. Services include companion care (companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, shopping, driving to doctors’ appointments) and personal care (bathing, continence, medication reminders, mobility assistance) and many other services that help people maintain their independence and safety in the comfort of their own home.

Both John and Wenjun have very personal experiences with the value of home care that have guided them to open FirstLight HomeCare following their retirement from the banking industry.

“My mother passed from dementia a few years ago and my father, who is 93, is suffering from it now,” Mr. Richards said. “I’ve seen firsthand how home care improved their lives and as importantly, the lives of our family care givers.”

This is also reflected in the care they provide for their adult, autistic son.

“Advocating for him has sensitized me to how difficult, but important, it is to get the right combination of family, government, and professional support,” Mrs. Richards said.

Opening a business that provides home care reflects the couple’s philosophy of compassion and service.

“We want to do something that is personally meaningful to us and makes a difference in people’s lives, both to our clients and to our caregivers,” Mrs. Richards said.

With a desire to give back to their community coupled with the rapidly growing in-home care industry, they decided to join FirstLight HomeCare, one of the fastest growing and most successful non-medical, in-home care organizations in the country.

“FirstLight has both integrity and knowledge of the business, and has provided us excellent support as we are establishing ourselves as a community provider,” Mr. Richards said.
