TruGreen Launches TruShield(SM) Lawn Pest Control to Combat Invasive Lawn Pests Including Ticks

TruShield is a comprehensive lawn pest plan to control nuisance pests such as fleas, ticks, ants, and spiders.

Memphis, Tenn (PRWEB) May 13, 2015 - TruGreen today announced the launch of TruShieldSM Lawn Pest Control, a comprehensive lawn pest plan to control nuisance pests such as fleas, ticks, ants, spiders and more. Lawn pests such as these can transmit diseases and cause allergic reactions for both people and pets. That’s why the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests that homeowners consider using a professional company to help reduce exposure to pests and pest-associated diseases.

TruShield is designed to help eliminate active pests and control successive generations of new pests that can migrate onto lawns. A TruShield Lawn Pest Control Plan includes a first application to significantly reduce the population of active lawn pests, and additional applications every four to six weeks for lasting control and ongoing protection.

In select states, TruShield will also help to eliminate active ticks and combat new eggs as they continue to hatch. Ticks are especially troublesome due to the transmission of tick-borne diseases to humans, including Lyme disease. Currently, there are no protective vaccines for humans for tick-borne diseases, so avoiding tick bites by reducing exposure is the best disease-prevention strategy.

Lyme disease is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected deer tick. Typical symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash. If left untreated, infection can spread to joints, the heart, and the nervous system. Each year, more than 30,000 cases of Lyme disease are reported to the CDC, although estimates indicate that the number of Americans diagnosed with Lyme disease each year is around 300,000, making it the most commonly reported tick-borne illness in the United States.

According to the CDC, reducing exposure to ticks is the best defense against Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases. The best time for the application to protect against Lyme disease is late spring when the ticks are in the nymph stage. If you live in an area prone to ticks, the CDC suggests you consider using a professional outdoor pest control company to help reduce the tick population in your yard.

“Using a professional outdoor pest control company like TruGreen should be part of a well-rounded, comprehensive defense program,” said Bob Mangan TruGreen Director of Technical Services, Northeast Region. “Because ticks and other nuisance pests can congregate in backyards, it is especially important to reduce exposure so that families can fully enjoy outdoor time.”

Following are general tips from the CDC to help reduce ticks in yards:

  • Consider using a professional outdoor pest control company to control ticks
  • Clear tall grasses and brush around homes and at the edge of lawns
  • Place a barrier of wood chips or gravel between lawns and wooded areas
  • Mow the lawn frequently and keep leaves raked
  • Stack wood neatly and in a dry area away from the house or lawn
  • Keep playground equipment, decks and patios away from wooded areas and in a sunny location if possible
  • Remove any trash or debris from the yard that may give ticks a place to hide
