Cousins Subs® Invests In IT Infrastructure

New IT Director to Lead Innovation

May 21, 2015 // Franchising.com // MILWAUKEE – Cousins Subs® invests in bolstering its IT infrastructure with the hiring of Scott Lewis as director of information technology.

Lewis is responsible for the oversight of information technology at Cousins, and will assist with organizational development through the incorporation of technological advancements.

Lewis specializes in IT architecture and infrastructure and has more than a decade of retail-based technology experience. Most recently, he held the position of information security manager at Foot Locker where he was responsible for managing the implementation of an automated identity management solution and led multiple teams in the development of future strategic initiatives. Lewis also served as the lead technical security analyst at Kohl’s Department Stores where he designed, created and implemented a corporate-wide intrusion detection system. Prior to joining the private sector, Lewis served seven years in the United States Army as a counterintelligence agent both in Germany and at the Pentagon.

“Scott has a diverse background in technology and has worked at a wide array of companies giving him talents that will serve Cousins well as we move forward with a new technology platform and point-of-sale (POS) system,” said Jason Westhoff, chief financial officer at Cousins Subs. “His ability to marry premium solutions with open source solutions will be beneficial as we look to maximize our reinvestment in all aspects of technology across our brand.”

Lewis will play an integral role in the advancement of technology at Cousins. Currently, the company is in the process of replacing all of its point-of-sale systems as well as redesigning the in-store network in all corporate and franchised units. The end goal is to have a network that is fully managed through the corporate IT team including full support of all devices from POS, to phone and security systems. The result will move the management of all in-store technology from the restaurant owner to the Cousins Corporate Support Center, allowing the owner to focus on providing quality products with great guest service.

Beyond the experience he gained during his years of service, Lewis holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix and a master’s certificate in Orchestration for Film and Television. Outside of work, Lewis enjoys spending his time with his wife and two dogs, is an avid cyclist and orchestrates, arranges, and writes various types of music in his home studio.

About Cousins Subs®

Cousins Subs® and its franchisees operate more than 110 sub sandwich shops in three states, with bold expansion plans. The first Cousins Subs was established in Milwaukee in 1972 by Bill Specht and his cousin. Their dream was to bring East Coast-style sub sandwiches to Milwaukee – with their own deli fresh touch. They started with their bread, developing a secret recipe with the perfect taste and crunch. That bread is the cornerstone of the Cousins Subs slogan, “Better Bread. Better Subs.” The original recipe is still closely followed at every Cousins Subs restaurant, where each sandwich is made to order using freshly sliced deli meats, cheeses, and vegetables – and the bread is baked fresh each day. Forty-two years later and still family owned, Cousins Subs employees and franchisees are driven by their mission to “Make It a Better Day” in all they do. In 2013, the brand proudly announced the establishment of the Make It Better Foundation, dedicated to funding causes that address health and wellness, hunger and youth education in the communities that Cousins Subs serves.
