September 14, 2015 // Franchising.com // Jacksonville, Florida – Woody’s Bar-B-Q® Franchise System is pleased to announce that Tim Edwards and Claudia Mejia-Edwards are the proud new owners of the Southern barbecue chain’s Ponte Vedra location. Claudia brings a solid history of hospitality service and management with the TGI Fridays™ restaurant chain, while Tim boasts management and executive level experience with nationally recognized retail companies, Food Lion and Target®. Prior to assuming ownership of Woody’s Bar-B-Q of Ponte Vedra earlier this summer, the couple opened and have successfully operated a Smoothie King since 2013. The Nocatee couple is excited about the possibilities this newest venture holds for their family.
“The idea to open our own restaurant was initially Claudia’s idea,” recalled Tim. “She is from El Salvador, and her family has always owned a restaurant. I have lived in Jacksonville for most of my life, and virtually grew up on Woody’s Bar-B-Q. I’ve always loved the food. When dining at their Baymeadows location a while back, we ran into the co-founder Woody – who was there for an event. We had an opportunity to talk with him and learn more about the concept. From then on, it seemed like the perfect fit. We have been amazed by the support shown to us by Woody’s Corporate, the one-on-one interactions with co-founders – Woody and Yolanda, and the seamlessness of the transition from the previous owners to our family. ”
Located at 226 Solana Rd at Ponte Vedra Beach, the Edwards’ new location already features a convenient drive-thru, small patio for outdoor dining, friendly staff and welcoming interior dining room. Tim and Claudia plan to convert the current game room into full liquor bar in time for the holiday season. The bar will be tucked away from the main dining room, in order to keep the family-friendly atmosphere fully intact. The new owners also plan to promote catering, quick service lunches, Kids Eat Free Mondays* and Trivia Night Thursdays.
“All in all, we hope that our patrons will grow to love Woody’s Bar-B-Q as much as we do,” said Tim. “We look forward to getting to know more of our neighboring families and local businesses while building strong ties to our community. We are proud to extend a 50% off discount to local firefighters and police officers** and hope to become involved with our local schools and churches through fundraising and more.”
As for personal favorites from Woody’s extensive menu, Tim highly recommends the smoked wings, prime rib and – of course – Woody’s Signature Baby Back Ribs, while Claudia is a fan of the Grilled Chicken Salad. When not hard at work at their new restaurant, the couple enjoys spending time outdoors with their sons Jorge (17) and Matthew (10).
