Carl’s Jr. Surpasses 200th Restaurant Milestone in Mexico with Opening of Two New Restaurants

Carl’s Jr. projects continued double digit unit growth and 300 restaurants by 2019.

MEXICO CITY - December 01, 2015 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - CKE Restaurants Holdings, Inc. (“CKE”), parent company of Carl’s Jr.® and Hardee’s®, has surpassed its 200th restaurant milestone in Mexico with the opening of two new restaurants on Friday, November 27. One of the new restaurants, operated by longtime licensee ICR, is located at La Isla Avenida Musala S/N Lote-78, M-35 while the other, operated by Premier Foods, is located at Carso Tlanepantla Avenida Sor Juana Ines De La Cruz, No, 280, Col. San Lorenzo.

“Mexico is a vibrant food service market and our brand has a strong track record of success across the country thanks to a solid base of outstanding franchisees. In fact, the country is a flagship market for Carl’s Jr. and hosts some of the highest volume, best operated restaurants in the CKE system. In recent years, we have experienced double-digit same store sales increases and double-digit new unit growth,” explained Ned Lyerly, President, International at CKE. “We’ve grown from our very first franchisee in 1991 to a total of 23 franchisees throughout the country today. Building on our current momentum, we see the potential to hit our 300th restaurant milestone in early 2019.”

Surpassing 200 restaurants in Mexico is part of CKE’s global expansion effort, which includes signed development agreements to open more than 1,000 new international restaurants. We see accelerating growth in Latin America, Asia, The Middle East and Europe with international restaurants now representing more than 18 percent of the CKE system.

The first Carl’s Jr. restaurant opened in Mexico in 1991 by Junior Foods. Today, Junior Foods is the largest licensee in Mexico with 42 restaurants in locations like Monterrey, Satillo, and opening soon in Leon.
