College H.U.N.K.S. Hauling Junk and Moving Opens 1st International Location in Edmonton, Canada
Edmonton Entrepreneur's Location Is the First One Outside the U.S. for Moving and Junk Removal Franchise
EDMONTON, AB - (Marketwired - July 06, 2016) - College H.U.N.K.S. Hauling Junk and Moving - which has been featured on "Blue Collar Millionaire," "Shark Tank," and other primetime shows - has opened its first location in Canada. The company, which provides local moving, junk removal, donation pickups and more, has been growing quickly in the United States, and this is the first international location for the brand based in Tampa, Florida.
Leon Kassian owns the local business, located at 7738 18th St. NW in Edmonton. The moving and junk removal franchise serves the entire Edmonton metro area, and many other cities and towns in Alberta.
Kassian is a dental implant specialist who has owned several clinics in the Edmonton area. After 20 years in that business, he says he was ready for a new challenge, and he found out about the College H.U.N.K.S. franchise when family members opened a franchise in Houston, Texas, last year.
"At first, I just congratulated them and didn't think much about it, but I eventually recalled a time when I needed some things removed, and I called some people out to my house to get some stuff, and their truck looked like it was going to break down in my driveway," Kassian says. "The guy was this unkempt, small little guy and I ended up having to help him load the truck. When I thought about that experience, I realized there is nobody around here that offers the type of service College H.U.N.K.S. provides."
Why customers and franchisees love College H.U.N.K.S.
College H.U.N.K.S. offers a professional moving experience provided by an enthusiastic team of budding leaders. H.U.N.K.S. actually stands for Honest, Uniformed, Nice, Knowledgeable Service, which is the company's promise to customers. By delivering on that promise, College H.U.N.K.S. has earned exceptional customer satisfaction marks, customer loyalty and word-of-mouth referrals.
Average franchisee sales increased 51% in 2015 compared to 2014, and sales increases have been double-digit for three years in a row.
"The possibilities to scale the business are endless," Kassian says. "There is so much demand. People have stuff they need removed, and people move all the time. And it's a service computers can't replace. Unless everyone decides to get rid of all their stuff permanently, we should do pretty well."
Helping employees become leaders
One of the company's core values is Building Leaders. College H.U.N.K.S. trains employees to build comprehensive business skills - including marketing, accounting, management and customer service skills - so they are equipped for success, whether they advance within the company, take their professional skills to another career or launch their own business.
For team members, the business offers more than a workout for muscles - it offers professional growth. Kassian's team currently consists of five MacEwen University students. One team member, who is studying to become an accountant, is learning the ropes of QuickBooks under Kassian's tutelage. A marketing student is managing social media for the business and helping to build relationships with business contacts.
"We're excited to have Leon as part of our organization. He's a dynamic businessman, and he's the perfect guy to launch the brand in Canada," says co-founder and president Nick Friedman. "With Leon leading the charge, we expect to make a big splash in Alberta."
