September 12, 2016 // Franchising.com // GREENVILLE, S.C. – 9Round, the world’s fastest-growing kickboxing gym franchise, has opened its first gym in Japan. Located just outside of Tokyo in Sagamiono, the new gym is the first of 100 Japanese gyms that are slated for development over the next 10 years.
“While Japan has long been a fitness-conscious nation, physical fitness has become an even larger priority among the Japanese. Whether you’re a salaryman or a student, I think everyone can and should incorporate fitness into their lives,” said Shimpei Okumura, who will be leading 9Round’s development in Japan. “There is something empowering about kickboxing – it is the sense of empowerment that appeals to most people. This unique fitness proposition is a key differentiator that will make us stand out from the competition and will, no doubt, help us transform the fitness market in Japan.”
Developed by Shannon Hudson, the reigning IKF Light Middleweight Kickboxing Champion of the World, 9Round workouts consist of nine, three-minute stations of activities that include cardio, weight training, abdominal exercises and kicks and punches on 100-pound, double-end, upper cut and speed bags. A real boxing bell rings to begin the workout, another to warn the station is ending and a third to signal the end. Members have a 30-second active break between rounds to recover.
There are no class times, trainers are always on site to lead the workouts, and routines change daily, giving members a fresh workout every time they come in.
In the six years since launching its franchise opportunity, 9Round has grown to more than 400 locations throughout 10 countries, more than half of which have opened since the beginning of 2015 alone. With development agreements for more than 300 additional locations already signed, 9Round expects to have a total of 1,000 clubs open and operating by 2020.
“This recent growth validates the international demand for 9Round and we plan to continue to partner with qualified franchise partners to expand our presence both domestically and internationally,” Hudson said.
