Local TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Kicks Off Movers for Mutts Drive to Help Shelter Animals in Need

Animal Protection Society of Durham Partners with Local Moving Company for Six-Week Collection Drive and Donation Push

DURHAM, NC (PRWEB) October 10, 2016 - Pets are considered an important part of any family, but many potential pets are stray animals forced to rely on the support of local animal shelters like the Animal Protection Society (APS) of Durham. Many of these shelters, including the APS of Durham, are non-profit organizations that could use the community’s support securing adequate amounts of food, toys and everyday living essentials for the 200 or more animals in their care on a daily basis.

Sadly, this is no isolated problem. Eye opening statistics from the ASPCA reveal that approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year. Each year, approximately 2.7 million animals are euthanized and about twice as many animals enter shelters as strays compared to the number that are relinquished by their owners.

So, this fall, in honor of October’s National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, our Triangle-based TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations are stepping up to raise awareness, encourage adoptions and collect financial gifts/donated items for the APS of Durham during the annual Movers for Mutts campaign.

According to Brooke Wilson, local TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® owner and dog mom of three, her team is excited to build upon the success generated by the 2015 Movers for Mutts campaign.

“As a dog owner myself, this is a campaign near and dear to my heart,” said Wilson. “In 2015, we were able to raise more than $14,000 for the APS of Durham through Movers for Mutts and we are eager to top that number in 2016, starting with a donation match of up the $5,000. We’re extending the reach of Movers for Mutts this year by establishing local collection sites and sponsoring multiple dog-friendly events and a Movers for Mutts Adoption Day at APS of Durham. We’re bringing back Facebook contests, football ticket giveaways, and the ever popular Battle for the Blue Bone Challenge, a fundraising contest between UNC and Duke fans. We’re thrilled to partner with the APS of Durham and look forward to helping them collect much needed items and funds.”

The Triangle-based Movers for Mutts Campaign (October 1 – November 19, 2016):

In order to drive awareness for their partnership with APS of Durham and encourage adoptions, contributions and gifts, Triangle-based TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations will launch multiple Facebook contests, football ticket giveaways, host an adoption event, organize local collection sites, sponsor two Barktoberfest events, and conduct the second annual Battle for the Blue Bone Challenge, a donation drive at select Duke and UNC football games.

All local residents are encouraged to make online Movers for Mutts donations at any time over the next six weeks at the following link – Movers for Mutts Matching Gift Campaign. The rules are simple – the fan base that donates the most money to APS of Durham before kickoff will take home the trophy…and the fan who makes the largest individual donation will take home FOUR tickets to the UNC v. Duke basketball game at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Thursday, February 9, 2017!
