The Grounds Guys Franchise Donates More Than $100,000 Worth of Product and Service to Local Organizations

Founders of weCARE Week Perform Free Service Projects for the Sixth Consecutive Year

WACO, Texas - November 01, 2016  - (BUSINESS WIRE) -For the sixth year in a row, professionals from The Grounds Guys, a premier, full-service grounds care franchise, will band together with its family of service brands under The Dwyer Group® umbrella to donate services to local charities in need during weCARE Week, totally free of charge.

The Grounds Guys established the service project initiative in 2011 in remembrance of Monika Woerlen and her family, a sibling of one of the original The Grounds Guys founders, who perished in a house fire. Today, the event has grown into weCARE Week and is observed during the first week of November by The Dwyer Group.

Services provided during weCARE Week consist of lawn care, window washing, cleaning of landscapes and service equipment. Some of this year’s projects include:

  • Ken Henrikson, The Grounds Guys Central Connecticut: Henrikson’s team will offer 20 neighborhood lawn services in exchange for a donation of a full turkey dinner. The dinners will be donated to a local food pantry in Southington, CT to provide Thanksgiving meals to those in need. Last year, The Grounds Guys Central Connecticut donated more than 40 dinners. The team also donated pizzas to local fire houses on September 11 and raised funds for Breast Cancer Awareness Month throughout October, with the goal of raising $2,500.
  • Kenny and Paula Smith of The Grounds Guys Spokane Valley, WA: Smith will rally his team for the sixth year in a row to winterize the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Spokane, Wash., an organization that provides a home away from home for families with children receiving medical treatment. The team of volunteers comprised of The Grounds Guys employees and customers, will also prepare food for the residents of the house.
  • Brad Bell, The Grounds Guys Owensboro, KY: Bell and his team with partner with the local Ronald McDonald House Charities of Evansville, Ind. to provide fall clean up service to the exterior of the house. Additionally, Bell plans to expand contributions by donating services to local churches.

“weCARE Week reflects The Grounds Guys’ core mission to give back to the communities in which we serve,” said The Grounds Guys President Chris Elmore. “Year after year our hardworking franchisees mobilize an army of volunteers to lend a helping hand to charities in need. It’s an amazing collective effort in remembrance of the Woerlen family.”

As the originators of weCARE Week, The Grounds Guys’ entire national workforce dedicates the first week of November to local community service projects across the country. Since the program’s inception, The Grounds Guys have donated more than $100,000 worth on product and service.
