GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. - Feb. 25, 2017 // PRNewswire // - It was sensory overload for the judges, but in the end a new champion was crowned! The burger aficionados at Tucker Duke's Lunchbox bested the competition with their Marmaduke burger to emerge victorious in Red Robin's fifth annual Best of the Bash Award at the Heineken Light Burger Bash presented by Schweid & Sons hosted by Rachael Ray at the Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival. The Gourmet Burger Authority™, along with television host Marc Summers, awarded Tucker Duke's Lunchbox with a check for $10,000 and chance for the award-winning burger to appear on Red Robin's menu.
All chefs participating in the Heineken Light Burger Bash were invited to enter their burger into Red Robin's Best of the Bash competition. Summers, alongside a panel of judges from Red Robin, sampled and scored 11 burgers using their five senses: hearing, sight, smell, taste and touch. The Marmaduke burger, featuring a chuck and brisket blend patty topped with bacon and fig chutney, melted brie fondue, shaved red onions and arugula took home top prize.
"The Marmaduke burger had our taste buds tingling with excitement," said Jonathan Muhtar, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Red Robin. "We sampled a variety of delicious burgers and the competition gets tougher each year, but collectively we knew we had a winner the moment the judges' panel picked up the burger and heard and saw each other's reactions."
"There was some great competition, but one burger really stood out," said Marc Summers. "It represents the quality and the kind of food that Red Robin should be serving, and deserves to serve, and I'm excited to see it on the menu."
In addition to the Best of the Bash Award competition, Red Robin showcased its commitment to a burgers and brews culture by serving the winning burger and beer from its Golden Robin Award and Golden Brew-Off Award contests with Florida International University at the Heineken Light Burger Bash. Given Suman was on hand to treat attendees to The 305 Burger, a cross between a classic American hamburger and the legendary flavors of a Cuban sandwich, and the duo of Adam Yudorich and Mauricio Fischer poured samples of their IPArin, an India Pale Ale-style beer infused with mandarin peels, throughout the event.
All proceeds from the Festival benefit the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management at Florida International University. For more information about Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews and to find a restaurant near you, visit www.redrobin.com.
