Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries to Open Mount Airy, North Carolina Restaurant on February 27

Retro-Themed Family-Friendly Diner Will add 50 Jobs to Surry County and will Donate 10% of First Three Days Sales to Hospice of Mount Airy (Mountain Valley Chapter)

March 09, 2017 // Franchising.com // Mount Airy, North Carolina - Retro-themed burger brand Hwy 55 will feel right at home in Mayberry.

Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries, the highly lauded All-American family-friendly diner, will open its first restaurant in Mount Airy, North Carolina on Monday, February 27, adding approximately 50 jobs to the area. Mount Airy is perhaps best known internationally as the home of actor Andy Griffith and inspired the fictional town of Mayberry on his eponymous show.

With the new restaurant located on US-601 & S. Andy Griffith Pkwy & US-52 BYP, residents and visitors in Mount Airy will experience an inviting dining experience with fresh, never-frozen burgers, premium sliced cheesesteaks piled high on steamed hoagies, and frozen custard made in-house every day. With its open-grill design, the kitchen's dedication and care when hand-crafting meals is front and center.

"We are very excited to bring good times and great food to the fine folks in this area,” said Chris Duggins, franchise owner for the Mount Airy restaurant. “Being in Mount Airy is like stepping back to a simpler time and that is really what Hwy 55 is all about so we know our style of food and ambiance will be very popular here.”

With approximately 135 units and growing, including 95 in North Carolina, Hwy 55 is already a household name in its home state and the Mount Airy restaurant makes an attractive addition to the brand’s statewide-profile. Approximately 75 new locations are planned in North Carolina in the next ten years.

While celebrating its 26th year in business, Hwy 55 has sold the rights to more than 1,000 franchise locations around the world. Hwy 55 has also signed franchise agreements for Texas, West Virginia, Louisiana, Kentucky and southern Indiana and western Virginia in the past year. The brand plans to open approximately 25 locations in 2017.

“I founded Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries 25 years ago, to provide something that I felt was missing: great food, friendly service and honest value,” said Hwy 55 president Kenney Moore, who flipped every burger himself for the brand’s first two years of business. “Those principles continue today at all of our restaurants and we will certainly fit in here. I love this city and Hwy 55’s focus on retro values and an always-fresh take on classics will work perfectly in Mayberry."

Hwy 55 has not only resonated well with the burger-loving public, the restaurant and franchising industries have taken notice as well. Hwy 55 won BurgerBusiness.com's "Best Burger" in 2012 and in 2014, Franchise Business Review named Hwy 55 one of the best restaurant franchises in the country. The brand also was recently named a top 500 franchise in the United States by Entrepreneur magazine for the second consecutive year and a "Next 20" restaurant brand by Nation's Restaurant News.

In keeping with Hwy 55’s continued mission to give back to the communities it enters, Hwy 55’s Andy’s Charitable Foundation and the local franchise owners will donate 10% of sales from the restaurant’s first three days to the Hospice of Mount Airy (Mountain Valley Chapter). Andy’s Charitable Foundation is Hwy 55’s most visible commitment to community involvement.

The restaurant’s hours are 11 am – 9 pm Sunday through Thursday and 11 am – 10 pm on Friday and Saturday. For more information, call the restaurant at 336-632-0362.
