Massage Envy Creates Industry-First Therapist Self-Care Program

At Annual Conference, Massage Envy Addresses These Professional Wellness Athletes Top Wellness Concerns

April 04, 2017 // Franchising.com // ORLANDO, Fla. - Massage Envy unveiled a first-of its kind program to enhance the health and wellness of professional therapists and estheticians, announced today at its 2017 Franchise Conference. The new program includes training and best practices that help the 25,000 therapists who collectively work in Massage Envy franchised locations put their own health first. It will be integrated into the culture, treating therapists and estheticians like professional wellness athletes to encourage health and wellness among staff allowing them to respond more quickly to early signs of injury.

“We’re first in the industry to do this, and we’ve developed an entirely new model to take better care of the therapists and estheticians who care for more than 1.65 million Massage Envy members,” said Joe Magnacca, CEO. “We looked carefully at what matters to therapists and created a program to proactively help them overcome the biggest barriers to their wellness, happiness and career longevity.”

According to a survey of therapists conducted by the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), more than half of massage therapists report having aches and pains in their shoulders, neck and back. Only 16 percent of therapists surveyed report feeling no fatigue after a day’s work, with 23 percent reporting feeling very tired or exhausted. But only 38 percent of therapists say that they warm up before performing services.

The self-care initiative – developed with support from the AMTA, includes preventative care, training and practices to help therapists proactively practice self-care to manage fatigue, aches and pains and chronic injuries. This new approach includes new techniques for warming up, recovery and building overall body strength to help therapists and estheticians operate at peak performance.

This new focus is an integral part of Massage Envy’s commitment to creating initiatives that support these skilled caregivers in building rewarding, long-term careers and of the company’s ongoing efforts to meet the growing market demand for talented massage therapists and estheticians.
