Cousins Subs® & Milwaukee Bucks Support Food Pantries Statewide

Restaurants Collect More Than 6,800 Pounds Of Food

April 17, 2017 // Franchising.com // MILWAUKEE - Cousins Subs® and the Milwaukee Bucks announce successful conclusion of second annual ‘Block Out Hunger’ campaign benefiting Hunger Task Force and food pantries throughout Wisconsin.

Throughout March, Cousins’ locations throughout the state collected healthy nonperishable food items for 40 local pantries, totaling 3,217 pounds of food collected in Milwaukee, and an overall total of 6,870 pounds of food collected statewide. In addition, for every Bucks’ blocked shot, Cousins’ Make It Better Foundation donated $45 to Hunger Task Force in honor of the sub shops upcoming 45th anniversary—a total that amounted to $19,665 by the campaign’s completion.

“As a Wisconsin-based company founded in Milwaukee, we are proud of the combined efforts of our partners and local communities,” said Justin McCoy, vice president of marketing at Cousins Subs. “In the second year of ‘Block Out Hunger,' we are honored to have made an even greater impact to support those experiencing food insecurity across Wisconsin.”

Since the start of the campaign in 2015, Cousins Subs and the Milwaukee Bucks have raised a total of $29,665 and 10,137 pounds of food to support Hunger Task Force and pantries statewide.

“We’re proud that our partnership with Cousins Subs continues to have such a positive impact on the Milwaukee community,” said Matt Pazaras, sr. vice president, business development and strategy for the Milwaukee Bucks. “From our players blocking shots and raising money on the court to our business staff contributing throughout the community, this year’s campaign was once again a team effort. We’re thrilled to be supporting a critical local organization in Hunger Task Force and look forward to continuing this important initiative next season.”

Cousins and the Bucks chose Hunger Task Force as the beneficiary of the Block Out Hunger campaign because it’s Milwaukee’s only Free & Local food bank, is Wisconsin’s leading anti-hunger organization and has a strong network of partnering pantries. The nonprofit collects nearly 10 million pounds of food a year and delivers it to 76 food pantries, soup kitchens and homeless shelters, which combined, serve more than 50,000 people each month.

“For the second year in a row, Cousins Subs and the Milwaukee Bucks helped us make a big difference for hungry families throughout Wisconsin,” said Sherrie Tussler, executive director of Hunger Task Force. “The ‘Block Out Hunger’ campaign is impactful because it raises awareness about hunger not just locally, but statewide. Thank you Cousins and the Bucks!”
