theCoderSchool Set to Open First St. Louis Location

Silicon Valley-based children’s enterprise franchise comes to St. Louis

July 26, 2018 // Franchising.com // PALO ALTO, CALIF. - theCoderSchool - recently identified as one of Entrepreneur Magazine’s hottest brands - has announced that a new school is set to open in St. Louis on September 8. The school will aim to show the next generation of kids how inspiring and exciting technology can be, while providing coding skills that are in high demand and applicable across all industries.

The new school, located at 157 Lamp and Lantern Village, will be owned and operated by Charu Katyal and Kathy Kilo Peterson. The two first met when their daughters were in the same first grade class and became fast friends. Now, they’ve decided to open their first theCoderSchool location.

Katyal has extensive experience in Human Resources and IT, while Peterson has run her own State Farm agency for over a decade. Both have been successful in their respective careers, but they were searching for an opportunity to give back to the community and to help children, especially young girls, realize their potential.

“We are thrilled to bring theCoderSchool to St. Louis,” said Katyal, who has volunteered with education-based charities for many years. “We want to give students the opportunity to access coding skills in a society that values STEM programs. We are especially hoping to help those children who wouldn’t have the opportunity otherwise. Our customized program will not only teach students how to code, but also provide kids with highly sought-after leadership skills.”

Founded by Hansel Lynn and incubated with the help of his best friend, Wayne Teng, theCoderSchool was built with the desire to provide children aged 7 to 18 years with a welcoming environment to develop computer programming skills. theCoderSchool uses a variety of platforms to teach various coding languages, such as HTML, CSS, Python, Javascript and more. Every Code Coaching lesson is customized with the help of trained Code Coaches® who use a 2-on-1 approach to teaching.

“Both Hansel and I attended Washington University and we love the St. Louis area. We are so excited to be able to bring theCoderSchool back to the home of our alma mater,” said Teng.

“We are always looking for franchisees whose primary goal is to set kids up with a positive, life-long relationship with tech and coding,” noted Lynn. “As we continue to expand our presence across the country, it’s crucial to find the right franchise partners who are deeply passionate about the brand and are excited to promote our fun, interactive culture. This is why we couldn’t be more excited about this partnership. Charu and Kathy are hardworking individuals with whom we share the same values. They will play an instrumental role in further establishing our brand in the local marketplace and I am confident that their location will thrive.”

theCoderSchool is also a proud founding member of the International Alliance of Youth Coding Educators. The IAYCE is an alliance of global partners whose goal is to further coding education for youth around the world.
