Camp Sunshine Accepts its Largest Donation Ever from Tropical Smoothie Cafe

The largest donation in camp history was presented Monday at Camp Sunshine in Casco, Maine

August 07, 2018 // // CASCO, Maine - Camp Sunshine gratefully accepted a check for more than one million dollars from Tropical Smoothie Cafe. This is the largest single donation the camp has ever received, providing Camp Sunshine vital funding to offer children with life-threatening illnesses and their families a cost-free retreat on the shores of Sebago Lake.

Tropical Smoothie Café is sponsoring this week's oncology session at Camp Sunshine where it presented the charity with a donation for $1,011,330, which is reflective of fundraising efforts put forth at every Tropical Smoothie Café location in the United States.

"Camp Sunshine does a tremendous job of helping families create lasting memories and building impactful relationships for the population it serves,” said Tropical Smoothie Café CEO, Charles Watson. "Tropical Smoothie Café franchisees, team members and guests are excited to present Camp Sunshine with this historic check in our 11th year of fundraising for them."

While at Camp Sunshine, families are able to relax, connect with other families, and enjoy all that summer in Maine has to offer. Special to this week's oncology session, families can enjoy fishing with the Eagle Bass Masters; rides on antique boats, provided by the Mountain View Woodies Antique Boat Club; cooking programs courtesy of Culinary Corps; and much more!

The funds raised from this generous donation go to sponsoring both a summer oncology session, as well as helping with family transportation assistance. The Tropical Smoothie Café Sports Center will be revealed this week and is equipped with indoor activities such as basketball, floor hockey, volley ball, archery, rock climbing and more.

"Tropical Smoothie Cafe continues to blow us away with their enthusiasm for our mission at Camp Sunshine," said Camp Sunshine's Executive Director, Michael Katz. "They have raised more than 6 million dollars for Camp Sunshine over the years, enabling us to bring more families from across the country to Camp Sunshine. We can now also use the new sports center to offer even more activities like rock climbing and archery during the winter months."

Camp Sunshine continues to earn Charity Navigator’s highest nonprofit rating for sound fiscal management and is accredited by the American Camp Association.
