Senior Helpers® to Host Dementia Consultant Certification Course, September 27 - 28

Nationally Renowned Dementia Care Expert to Offer Certification Event to Healthcare Professionals and Senior Advocates

RICHMOND, Va., - Sept. 13, 2018 // PRNewswire // - Senior Helpers® of Richmond, one of the nation's premier providers of personalized in-home senior care, today announced it will host a dementia certification event September 27 - 28, led by nationally renowned dementia care expert, Teepa Snow. Snow is headed to Richmond to conduct this two-day consultant certification event designed for healthcare professionals who advise families working through dementia-related challenges. In addition to dementia-related awareness and knowledge, participants will learn effective communication techniques, strategies to connect with people in a meaningful way, and methods of providing the proper resources at the right time.

"At Senior Helpers, we see the toll illnesses like Alzheimer's and dementia can have on caregivers and families. Through the two-day certification, our goal is to equip healthcare professionals, caregivers and senior advocates with the tools and knowledge needed to better counsel families working with those living with dementia," said Wayne Wilkins, President and Owner of Senior Helpers of Richmond. "Teepa will educate each attendee on the brain, core steps to pre-planned consulting, coaching seniors with dementia, consulting 'in the moment,' dealing with grief and loss, recognizing and addressing denial, and much more."

There are currently 5.7 million Americans living with Alzheimer's, and that number is projected to reach 14 million by 2050. It's important, now more than ever, to equip people with tools to care for those with memory loss. The seminar, titled, "Positive Approach to Care Consultant Certification Course" will consist of a two-day session and can benefit a variety of professionals including geriatric care managers, social workers, executive directors, marketing directors, senior living advisors, marriage and family therapists, community/family liaisons, elder law attorneys and more. Attendees can expect to learn about a variety of topics between the two days.

  • Day One: Your Role as a Dementia Consultant - Teepa will provide an in-depth look into the consultant role and share ways to better support clients.

    - Thursday, September 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Day Two: Practice Using Consultant Tools - Participants will apply their newly learned skills in roleplaying scenarios and explore real life examples in small group discussions.
