HealthSource Rewards Americans Participating in the DEA's Take Back Day with Wellness Vouchers

CLEVELAND - Oct. 25, 2018 // PRNewswire // - The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will conduct a National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, October 27 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. local time in each state. Collection sites in every local community can be found by going to www.dea.gov. This will be the second and final 2018 nationwide collection organized by the DEA. The last collection in April brought in 949,046 lbs. (474.5 tons) of unused prescriptions.

Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. According to the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.2 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet. This is particularly relevant today with our nation dealing with the opioid crisis. In 2017, 72,000 Americans died from drug overdoses, and nearly two-thirds of these deaths involved a prescription opioid.

HealthSource is supporting the DEA's efforts by rewarding those who bring unused prescriptions to any of the collection sites with a $5 Wellness Voucher, which can be used on nutritional supplements and other holistic health products designed to relieve back and neck pain. Those turning in old, unused prescriptions can anonymously redeem the Wellness Voucher by going to www.20painfree.com.

Chiropractic, along with physical rehab and massage are non-opioid pathways for treating chronic back and neck pain. HealthSource, with more than 250 clinics across the country, is the largest provider of these wellness services, and promotes non-opioid pathways for treating chronic pain.

"The opioid crisis remains a huge problem in our country, and fortunately there are non-prescription solutions for those who are in pain," said Dr. Tomshack, founder and CEO of HealthSource. "Proper disposal of old prescriptions is a very important step in the process of dealing with this crisis, and I commend federal, state and local law enforcement for conducting these national roundups."
