Honor Yoga Stretches Presence In Home State of New Jersey

Booming yoga franchise set to expand to Somerset County

February 04, 2019 // Franchising.com // Lawrenceville, New Jersey - Honor Yoga, known as an eco- and beginner-friendly yoga studio and community that welcomes and nourishes every yogi to thrive in their practice, has set its intentions on expanding in its home state of New Jersey amid a larger national expansion plan. Looking to stretch its yoga experience to more communities, the brand is targeting to open in Somerset County in spring 2019.

The upcoming Somerset studio will join locations through New Jersey in Easthampton, Hamilton, Hoboken, Hillsborough, Jackson, Manalapan, Mansfield, North Brunswick, Pennington, Princeton, and Washington. Somerset County’s studio will be owned and operated by husband and wife duo Cheryl and Owen McLeod. While there is no set location, the McLeod are eyeing Bridgewater, Warren, Baskingridge and others in Somerset.

“We are excited to continue spreading Honor Yoga’s mission in New Jersey,” said Cheryl McLeod. “As Somerset area continues to grow and the population becomes increasingly wellness-minded, many are already attending yoga classes at Honor Yoga locations. We are thrilled to bring a favorite yoga studio closer to home.”

Yoga is not just a business venture for the McLeods, but a part of their daily lives. Cheryl McLeod has enjoyed a successful career as a creative director for corporate America, but following a trip to Mexico where she first experienced yoga, she knew her next move. Immediately falling in love, Cheryl continued her practice at home and is now in the process of becoming a 200 hour certified yoga instructor with Honor Yoga.

Owen McLeod has worked as an IT professional for 30+ years and practices yoga with his wife at least twice a week. The couple are excited to continue their passion for health and wellness, helping to encourage their community to exercise and be healthy.

“Yoga can transform your life, both physically and mentally,” added Owen McLeod. “Our family saw the positive impact of the practice and knew we had to show others how powerful it is. With a wide-array of classes from power flow to roots to aerial yoga, we hope to provide different formats and avenues for other’s to discover yoga.”

Founded by fitness industry veteran Maria Turco, Honor Yoga’s mission is to provide welcoming, beginner-friendly and accessible yoga studios where healthier and happier communities can be built around the practice of yoga. Focused on the five pillars of yoga - physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual and social health - Honor Yoga offers a variety of classes to fit into each individual’s diverse lifestyle and schedule. From gentle, roots, calm and strong, slow flow, flow, power flow, aerial, yogabarre and meditation, each class is designed to fulfill the five pillars of yogic practice to relax the mind, restore balance, and build strength and flexibility. Honor Yoga also offers online streaming yoga classes.

Furthermore, each studio is consciously designed with the environment in mind. The living and breathing space honors the body, spirit and environment through a living vertical garden, bamboo floors as a wood substitute, safe cleaning products, and reusable retail products, among other design elements.

“Yoga serves as a catalyst for self-growth and discovery. The McLeods understand the power of yoga and desire to introduce others to its effects” added Turco. “We are thrilled to have the McLeod join our family and look forward to watching them carry our mission into Somerset.”

Honor Yoga currently has 25 studios in various stages of development across six states, with plans to open 20 additional studios each year. By 2023, Honor Yoga expects to have 100 studios open and operating.
