Potbelly Sandwich Shop Opens First Location in Charlottesville

The beloved brand brings toasty warm sandwiches, signature shakes to Charlottesville

March 22, 2019 // Franchising.com // CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Potbelly Sandwich Shop (Potbelly) announced today the opening of a new shop, a franchise location, in Charlottesville, Va. Having opened to the public on Tuesday, March 12, the new location joins the 25 Potbelly locations in the state and marks the first in Charlottesville.

Potbelly shops have earned a reputation in neighborhoods across the United States for having delicious food, fun décor and fresh tunes making them “The Best Place for Lunch,” especially within bustling Virginia communities such as Charlottesville, University of Virginia’s hometown. David Duke and Jay Clark, the owners of the new shop, have a combined 35 years of restaurant industry experience. They also own Potbelly Sandwich Shops in Richmond.

“We’re ready to introduce the folks in Charlottesville to Potbelly,” said Duke. “It is an honor to bring good vibes and great sandwiches to the community. We know they’ll love our tasty sandwiches, salads, shakes, cookies and more.”

In 2014, Duke and Clark opened their first Potbelly location in Richmond. The momentum of that shop has primed the entrepreneurs to open additional locations throughout the state, including another Richmond shop projected to open in the upcoming weeks.

“David and Jay’s passion for what makes Potbelly so unique is truly inspiring,” said Jeff Welch, senior vice president of development for Potbelly Sandwich Shop. “We are so excited for them to bring Potbelly to Charlottesville, and we’re confident the shop will quickly become a local favorite.”

Hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, 7:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays when University of Virginia classes are in session.

Currently, there are nearly 500 corporate and franchise Potbelly shops in the United States and abroad. The brand plans to continue franchise growth in 2019 and is seeking experienced multi-unit operators who have the drive to grow a great business opportunity.
