New Owner Of Pirtek Overland Pursues Growth In Construction Industry, Builds Team Of Local 513 Members

Pirtek Overland owner also launches mobile-only Pirtek St. Louis to expand work with construction equipment and rental companies; techs are now members of Local 513

March 27, 2019 // Franchising.com // Rockledge, FL, USA - Jared Gross is the new owner of Pirtek Overland and Pirtek St. Louis, both in metro St. Louis. One major change under his ownership is that the Service & Supply Center at 9425 Dielman Rock Island Industrial Drive, Olivette, MO, 63132, and the mobile-only Pirtek St. Louis are now staffed with members of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 513.

Gross said the union affiliation will be instrumental in helping the center obtain jobs in the thriving construction market in downtown St. Louis, a market that totals about $6 billion. “It will allow us to work on operators’ equipment: cranes, dozers, any machine on a union jobsite,” Gross said. “We’ve acquired two new vehicles for that purpose.”

Hose-replacement service calls for companies that supply trucks and rental equipment to union workers will also be open now to Pirtek Overland, Gross said.

I’ll be focusing on the area around our center, then work toward expanding outward,” he said.

Pirtek St. Louis is a Tier 2 location. Under the Tier 2 program of ownership, franchisees can acquire a Pirtek for a lower initial investment by leasing two vehicles and keeping inventory in a storage facility. The traditional Tier 1 model includes a Service & Supply Center along with the Mobile Service Vehicles. Tier 2 owners are required to upgrade to a Tier 1 center within three years.

The new owner’s varied background equips him well for his work as a Pirtek owner. He started out working in concrete flatwork, helping produce multi-story structures such as air traffic control towers and sports stadiums. Later, he became a mechanical designer of power plants. In recent years, Gross entered sales and became the top salesman in the United States for a prominent garage door company.

He said that the Pirtek locations went up for sale at just the right time for him.

“I’m still young enough to take risks, old enough to guide myself through it,” Gross said. “The timing and opportunity were right for this location, so I capitalized on it.”
